From that point onward, Tamerlan got deeper into his religion and gradually began turning into an extremist. Then came a time in 2012 when Tamerlan went on a trip to Russia and Dagestan. Upon his return, John found Tamerlan to have changed completely. He soon backed out of training, and the two saw each other on and off.
Where Is John Allan Now?
Exactly ten days before the Boston Marathon bombing, Tamerlan paid a visit to John, accompanied by his daughter. The stop was pretty normal. The two played music and even had a talk about the former’s future in boxing. However, John did catch the “something seems off” vibes back then. And looking back he believes Tamerlan had already planned the whole attack by then. Nevertheless, John said he was still pretty shocked when the authorities established that Tamerlan and his brother were responsible for the bombing.
Fast forward to now, John’s Wai Kru MMA gym against the odds has stayed in business after several disastrous years. A few weeks after the bombing, one of John’s instructors left and with him took dozens of clients. As a result, monthly revenue plummeted by as much as $8,000, and the gym, which ran free after-school programs for high school students, struggled with finances and other ways. So, in all these years, John has been to instead connect Wai Kru with the likes of Doomsday, a rising star in the UFC, and not with Tamerlan and the bombing or the triple homicide that left three gym members dead back in 2011.
