Ever since Home Town premiered on HGTV on 24 January 2016, viewers have seen the married couple/home reno enthusiasts Ben and Erin Napier restore Southern homes in Laurel, Mississippi. A lot goes into the making of this show and more people are involved in its making than you may think. Including Mike Husers “the floor guy”, there are a few contractors and people like Mallorie and Jim Rasberry, and Josh Nowell.
Josh Nowell, whom we are going to talk about in the rest of the writing, is Ben Napier’s old friend and wood-shop sidekick.
Josh Nowell On HGTV’s Home Town
So you know, Josh Nowell has worked on Ben’s builds for Home Town since the beginning when their woodshop was in the back of an old drugstore building in downtown Laurel. He recalls his favorite build from Season 5 is the cedar shelves for the Moffett House. (The fifth season of Home Town aired from January to April in 2021.)
As per IMDB, Josh has been specially thanked and promotional consideration provided by Home Town for its several episodes.
In a blog published on the internet as “BEN’S WORKSHOP: BEHIND THE SCENES WITH JOSH NOWELL” published in August 2021, Josh admitted that his time in the woodshop is limited due to the responsibilities of raising children and operating multiple businesses. And so, when Ben is usually filming 12 hours a day, he is generally working on business operations with their partner Jim Rasberry.
Also appreciating the other partner’s craftmanship, he cited “Ben designs each piece, and Randy preps the wood and gets everything ready for filming. We’re super appreciative of his craftsmanship. I think Randy is a better woodworker than me. He is usually the one who finds the flaw in our designs.”
The only thing is neither of them can be in the woodshop as much as they’d like, Josh shared hinting at their respective family which they also need to attend to.
Josh also co-owns Laurel Mercantile with Ben.

Josh Nowell Wife
Josh Nowell got married to his wife Emily on 9th October 2010. They exchanged their vows in fabulous Southern style with fiddle and guitar playing traditional Irish tunes, Spanish moss hanging from the huge live oak trees, friends and family as delighted as them.
So, Josh met his future bride on a blind date that took place after Josh graduated from Ole Miss and Emily from the University of Southern Miss. They spent the early years of their marriage on the road as traveling landmen and the founders of Petrolia Land Co., until Emily found out that she was expecting. And because the lifestyle they had (They lived in hotels.) did not seem very practical to bring up a baby, they came back to Mississippi to put down roots. Soon, they invested in historic real estate development in Josh’s hometown, Laurel, while restoring a historic house for their growing family to call home.
Fast forward to today and they have four kids, the youngest Nora, 10 months old, second son Teddy, born fifteen months after their oldest son, Sam. (Of course) there is he a three-year-old girl Irene (all these ages taken as of August 2021).
