Christina is not only a judge on Betsy’s case, but she is also a childhood friend of prosecutor Leah Askey. She reportedly didn’t allow Russ’s attorney to present evidence about another possible suspect. Judge Christina didn’t allow Joel to present the fact that Pam was the sole beneficiary of Betsy’s $150,000 life insurance policy.
Moreover, Christina also “refused to allow the defense to present cell telephone evidence that showed the victim’s friend appears to have remained near the Faria home for as long as 30 minutes past the time she originally said she left after dropping the victim off.”
Russ’s attorney Joel appealed the decision and filed for a trial however Christian turned down the appeal in December 2013.
But in 2015, Joel’s appeal was re-accepted and Russ’s case was opened for re-evaluation from the very start. Fortunately, Russ in 2015, got exonerated and got released after serving 3 years in prison.
