In 2019, 31 United States naturalized citizens took the oath of allegiance at the National Archives Rotunda in Washington, DC. In Judge Tanya Chutkan’s closing remarks, she shared a glimpse of her own journey to citizenship after leaving her native Jamaica and mentioned her sister.

Tanya said, “I know this is a special day for you and your families. When I say I know that, I really do know that, because I, too, am an immigrant. I remember this day very well. In fact, my sister was naturalized right here in this very Rotunda many years ago. I know this is a special day, and I know how long and hard you have worked to get here.”

The sister of Tanya is named Robynne Chutkan, a very respected personality in her own field.

When Tanya was nominated by former President Barack Obama to be district judge for The District of Columbia, she also mentioned her sister and her husband. “I want to thank my–here today with me, my sister, Dr. Robynne Chutkan, who is here, and with her husband, Eric Mann, who is from the Department of Homeland Security,” Tanya said.

Born to Winston and Noelle Chutkan, Robynne is one of three children. Robynne and Tanya also have a brother named Dr. Norman Chutkan. Norman is an orthopedic spine surgery specialist in Phoenix, AZ, and has over 32 years of experience in the medical field.

Talking about Eric’s career, he is working as Intelligence Capability Lead MITRE since 2018. He has more than twenty-five years of experience leading national security programs. At MITRE, he led the development of innovative solutions for the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Director of National Intelligence.

Prior to joining MITRE, Eric had a distinguished career as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Department of Homeland Security, where he led Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Insider Threat Programs. Moreover, he also led vulnerability assessments at all DHS National Laboratories and Data Centers.

Dr. Robynne Chutkan earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she also served as chief resident and completed her internship and residency. She finished her gastrointestinal residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Robynne Chutkan Job

Robynne Chutkan, MD, FASGE is a board-certified gastroenterologist who is also the author of the digestive health publications Gutbliss, The Microbiome Solution, The Bloat Cure, and The Anti-Viral Gut. Since 1997, she has served as a professor at Georgetown University Hospital. In an effort to identify the underlying causes of GI illnesses, she established the Digestive Center for Wellness in 2004.

In her treatment approach to digestive disorders, Robynne integrates microbial optimization, nutritional therapy, mind-body practices, and lifestyle modifications.

Robynne, a former board member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), previously served as chair of the organization’s public relations and training committees. She has written hundreds of scholarly journal papers and book chapters, and she routinely gives lectures on the microbiome and gut health around Europe and the United States.

The Today Show, CBS This Morning, The Doctors, The Dr. Oz Show, The Megyn Kelly Show, and her own PBS Special titled “Gutbliss” have all featured Robynne as the medical expert. She has been featured in several media, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and the Washington Post.

Robynne has also worked as a medical consultant and on-air personality for the Discovery Healthcare Channel. Dr. Chutkan, an enthusiastic squash player, runner, and yogi, is passionate about introducing more dirt, sweat, and vegetables into people’s lives.
