Meet Kaeyra, one of the many contestants on Season 21 of American Idol, and also one of the rarest to give chilling performances each time she is on the stage. She started her journey on the competition with a chilling rendition of Chris Stapleton’s “Cold”. And since then, she has only gone further in the contest. Kaeyra appeared on America’s Got Talent Season 13 and even advanced to the Judge Cuts. But, for some reason, she did not participate further. Then after people saw her on TV on a Sunday night, on 26 March 2022, as American Idol broadcasted its last round of auditions. All the judges were impressed and Luke Bryan even gave her a standing ovation.
Then, in the S21E09 of Idol viewers saw her placed in the “Top 24” Hawaii Round. To get here, she sang “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarten during the first part of Hollywood Week. And for her final solo performance, she sang “River” by Bishop Briggs.
Backing up Kaeyra on this journey has been her mother. She has been with her for the taping of the prerecorded episodes. “She’s a big part of my story,” Kaeyra told the cameras. And then also explained how all of it is just as much of a dream for her.
Kaeyra started performing at age 12 after spending every day at her mother’s music school in Schaumburg. No doubt, she wants to live the American Idol experience with her.

‘Kaeyra’ apparently is just the stage name. Her real name is either Karolina Baran or Carolina Baran.
As to why ‘Kaeyra’, she said she chose this name because when she was younger people used to call me that all the time. With time, she said she also grew fond of that name. She said she really likes the way it sounds and believes that it gives her sassy and confident vibes.

Kaeyra is the only child of her parents, who came to the United States from Poland with $1,000 to their name, not really speaking English and knowing all of maybe two people. As far back as Kaeyra can remember, she watched as they chased their American dream. So, being on American Idol, she said, felt like living her family’s American dream.
Another time, when talking about her parents, Kaeyra said they are such a blessing and support like no other. They are the ones, she said, who truly understand her vision and always push her beyond her limits. Kaeyra believes that without their support, she would not be as far in her career as she is today.
Kaeyra’s mother is Joanna Szepelawy. She turned 46 in May 2022 and at this point, she continued to be the director at Wyspa Dzieci Learning Center and piano teacher at Polska Szkola im. Jana III Sobieskiego. In Kaeyra’s words, she is her “amazing, smart, and strong mom”. Kaeyra also gushed that she is thankful for their relationship and how close they are.
Then, we have Grzegorz Baran, Kaeyra’s dad, who turned 48 in October 2022. According to Kaeyra, her daddy also has “literally” always been there for her.

Kaeyra graduated from Huntley High School in 2019. And likely ever since then, she has worked as a restaurant singer.
Inspired by her parents, she started small and eventually worked her way to performing at Chicago Bulls and White Sox games, Lollapalooza, and similar venues. Also, since moving to Los Angeles four years ago, she started singing at Maestro’s Steakhouse three or four times a week, performing covers of other artists. On the Idol stage, she said she sings four hours a night to support herself and to keep herself in that performer’s mindset.
