Four months before the unprecedented event, Howie had started working at the Coconut Grove, Florida, restaurant the Peacock Garden Resto Bar + Grill as an executive chef. “We at Peacock Garden are saddened by the passing of chef Howie Kleinberg,” the restaurant said in a statement. “Howie was a valued member of our team and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family”.
Howie worked to promote charitable organizations near and dear to his heart during his illustrious career as a chef, which started in the kitchen of the Hotel Intercontinental in Miami. He contributed to “Taste of the Nation,” which raises money to fight childhood hunger. In addition to owning a rescue dog named Skye at the time of his passing, he also campaigned to raise money for animal shelters.
