The awaited season 13 of The Great British Bake Off finally premiered on September 13, 2022, after several changes to its programming schedule — following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
So, as always, 12 participants including Maisam Algirgeet took it to the kitchen to try and impress the judges — Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood — meanwhile also trying their best to learn from the scrutiny. Because if they don’t, by the end of the first 90-minute episode, they might just be the next contestant to get sent home while the best is crowned “Star Baker.”
Recalling the filming process, Maisam shared that she felt “lucky and grateful” to have shared this amazing experience with the best bunch. And her humility and gratefulness were greatly appreciated by her co-stars and even the viewers — placing her as the 4th most popular contestant right after the first episode.

So, what was her game plan? Well, she intended to charm the judges with her favorite flavors inspired by her Mediterranean heritage — which included the tang of olives, the sweetness of dates, and the nuttiness of sesame seeds. But she knew it was going to take a lot more than just flavors to win over these tough judges.

For those of you who don’t know, unlike other cooking shows, GBBO offered no cash prize, rather just flowers and a cake stand.
Maisam Algirgeet Job
Maisam Algirgeet is a sales assistant. But this is only her part-time job. Someday, she hopes to have a career in interior design.
Now, talking about her passion for baking, the GBBO star has been making cakes ever since she was 13. Intrigued by the science required to get a bake right, Maisam claimed that she’s only gotten better over time, and will continue to do so until her hands couldn’t bake anymore.
Her baking strategy includes working slowly and steadily and learning from her mistakes. Also, she believes cake baking is artful as much as it is scientific. And we couldn’t agree more. Baking requires fairly exact measurement, and often by weight, not just volume. Sautes, braises, soups, etc., are very forgiving, you can tweak them and let the flavors mingle in the fridge overnight.
No wonder, she lets her cakes cool completely before decorating and only then spreads the workout over a few days.
As for her education, Maisam was set to graduate from The Manchester Metropolitan University in Jun 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design.
Prior to that, Maisam received her A-level degree in Photography, Spanish, and Graphic design from Salford City College Group – Pendleton School Creative Arts in 2021.
Yes, she’s interested in photography and is a fluent Spanish speaker. But that’s not the only foreign language she speaks. Infact, she has already mastered Arabic, Amazigh, and Turkish, and hoped to master two more by the time she turns 20.
