On May 25, 1943, Margaret Judd’s parents Charles and Pauline Judd married in East Jenkins, Letcher County, Kentucky.
Margaret’s father, Charles was born to Roy Ogden Judd and Sallie Ellen Moore on December 30, 1924.
He grew up in Little Blainecreek’s Shirt Tail Fork, on a farm that had been in his family for generations. Because the only work alternatives in Lawrence County were coal mines or nothing, his family relocated to Ashland. When Charles was a senior in high school, he met Pauline, a fourteen-year-old strawberry blonde cashier.
Judd’s Ashland Oil was owned by Charles Judd. He was in control of the company’s operations as well. Pauline, Charles’s wife, was just fifteen years old when they married. Glen purchased his own gas station, which he named Judd’s Friendly Ashland Service.
Margaret’s mother Pauline Judd was born to Howard Waverly and Edith Mae Burton Oliver, whilst Margaret’s father was born to Howard Waverly and Edith Mae Burton Oliver. She was from Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County. Edith was described by Naomi’s daughter Ashley as a “flophouse drunken party girl” who had repeatedly cheated on Howard. Pauline’s father was found dead with a bullet in his head in the toilet. At the time, Pauline was nine years old.
So Pauline worked at the locally beloved Hamburger Inn to raise all of her siblings among a group of maladjusted grown aunts and uncles who were still living at home.
Pauline was a stay-at-home mom. She did, however, work with her daughter at Polly’s parents’ Hamburger Inn. Polly went on to become an Ashland city commissioner after working as a chef on an Ashland Oil barge. Polly was a 1945 Ashland High School alumnus, a former Ashland City Commissioner, and a member of Ashland’s First Baptist Church.
Charles, died on July 4, 1984, at the age of 59. Pauline, on the other hand, died on July 31, 2019, at the age of 91.
Margaret Judd Siblings
Though Naomi needs no further introduction, she was a Kentucky-born singer of the Grammy-winning duo The Judds and the mother of Wynonna and Ashley Judd. Margaret’s sister Naomi died on 30 April 2022.
Naomi’s daughters announced her death with a statement provided to The Associated Press. “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness,” the statement said.
They added further, “We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”
Margaret is the least known among all the siblings. Their brother Brian Judd died as a teenager on 8 November 1965. According to his death certificate, he died of Cardio-Respiratory Collapse caused by Hodgkins Disease. He died in Forsyth, Winston, Salem. They also have a brother named Mark Judd who lives with his wife Middy Judd in Elizabethtown, KY.
Mark works as a pastor and has worked as a longtime Baptist minister in Hardin County.
