Mark McMillian, a former defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs, has swapped out the noise of the crowd for the sizzle of the grill. The diminutive defensive back, who made notable plays at Arrowhead Stadium in the 1990s, is attempting to perfect the grill. The eight-year NFL veteran has only been grilling for three years.
“Life after football ain’t easy,” Mark told KMBC News. “So, guys have to find something that gives them that extra rush.”
Whereas in 2020, he talked about his passion for grilling for Philadelphia Eagles. “I just love to grill,” McMillian said. “I love to bring people together through food. Especially with the times that we’re going through right now. There are a lot of restaurants that have been put out of business, and I just like to continue to bring my family closer, to the table, with food. Food is a great conversation piece.”

Mark McMillian Career
Mark McMillian, a former NFL veteran, is also an Emmy Award winner. In recognition of his participation on the regular pregame show hosted by his colleague Randall Cunningham, Mark was given the prestigious Emmy Award in October 1995. He was the Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive back.
The chef was a high school sprint champion and a former NFL player. He started at Glendale Junior College in California for two years. He was recognized for his outstanding performance and given the opportunity to obtain a scholarship. The scholarship allowed him to play at the University of Alabama under renowned coach Gene Stallings.
Mark still retains the Alabama record for the longest interception return touchdown in school history. Per the website, Mark was drafted into the NFL by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 10th round where as a rookie, he earned honors by being named to the prestigious All-Madden Team.
During a brief career as a New Orleans Saint, Mark would go on to play cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs under head coach Marty Schottenheimer, where he would enjoy some of his most lauded success. 5-foot-7-inch Mark earned the moniker “Mighty Mouse” from his teammates and fans in 1997 after having an outstanding campaign that included 8 interceptions (tied for the NFL lead) and 3 defensive touchdowns (longest 87 yards).
Mark also established a Chiefs franchise record with 274 yards returned. His current home is Los Angeles, where he collaborates with numerous organizations to enhance the lives of children and teenagers.
Talking about the proudest moment of his career, Mark told Philadelphia Eagles, “I would say just having respect from the guys. From the teams. From my opponents,” he says. “We play this game and everybody can’t make it into the Hall of Fame, and everybody’s not going to win a Super Bowl, but when you can get a guy like a Reggie White or an Eric Allen or play against a Cris Carter or Art Monk, guys that are in the Hall of Fame, give you props after a game, you can’t put a price tag on that.”
