Mark Wales On Australian Survivor: Blood v Water
Mark Wales was named the victor of Australian Survivor: Blood v Water on April 4, 2022 ep of the show. The ep started with the final four Shay Lajoie, Chrissy Zaremba, Josh Millgate, and Mark, where Shay went on to win the long and grueling final 4 immunity challenge.
Then, Josh was voted out unanimously. Following this, the 10-member jury (which included Mark’s wife) intensely questioned the final three and the votes were read live on set. And what do we know? Mark won with a 10-0-0 vote.
This was the second time in the history of Australian Survivor anyone ever received a unanimous vote. The first one was in season 6 (in 2019) where Pia Miranda beat Baden Gilbert.
Just before the final ep, Mark took it to his IG to write, “Whatever happened out there, I always reminded myself that the night is always darkest before the dawn – there’s always hope. I’m lucky to have played Survivor twice.”
In case you don’t know, Mark first appeared in the Australian Survivor back in 2017. Unfortunately, his relationship with Sam Gash — labeled a “power couple” by Henry Nicholson and Jacqui Patterson — got many to team up and strategically vote them out before they became a threat.
However, this “power couple” returned to the show for its 9th installment and went on to become the last couple standing.
Mark Wales SAS Career
Even since a child, Mark Wales always wanted to be in the Australian military. So, after completing high school, Mark went on to join the Australian Defense Force Academy and graduated with a bachelors’ degree in history and political science in 1999. Thus, effective from January 2019, Mark officially became a part of the Australian Army.
Over his 13 and a half years of SAS career, Mark, as a Troop Commander, has led 30 elite soldiers on the battlefields of Afghanistan. Reportedly, his job there was to oversee combat missions against senior enemy commanders, deep behind enemy lines.
So, after retiring from the military in 2012, Mark went on to join the Wharton School and graduated with a master of business administration degree in 2014.
Later, Mark then joined McKinsey & Company and worked there as a consultant for over 3 years until he founded The Younger Heroes (an org reconnecting veteran parents with their children) in 2017. However, Mark felt that these jobs lacked excitement. Thus, he went on to become a participant in Australian Survivor, meanwhile also writing books about his journey.
His book, Survivor: Life in the SAS (published by Pan Macmillan Australia) was available for $34.99.
As of 2022, Mark also runs his special ops-designed outerwear company called Kill Kapture.

So, a year after leaving the island, Mark and Samantha then went on to have their first child Harry on March 23, 2018. The two then exchanged vows the next year on December 12, 2019. Their wedding was officiated by Jacqui Patterson (the woman who orchestrated their eliminations).
Looking back, Samantha said that their love story was one for the books and most definitely beyond a reality TV show. “In you (Mark) I have found a thought partner, a partner in adventure, the father of our child and a husband,” she once wrote.
