Matthew Hutchins married the love of his life, Halyna Hutchins, back in June 2005 in Ukraine. To recall their wedding, Halyna was walked down the aisle by her father in his naval dress uniform. And to symbolize prosperity, Matthew was given a traditional Ukrainian loaf of Karaway bread.
The lovebirds then went on to welcome a son named Andros Hutchins seven years later. And all of it was going well until 21st October 2021, when a bullet from a prop gun killed Matthew’s wife on the set of Rust.
After heading the news, the duo’s then nine-year-old Andros was unable to utter a word for two days. Although Matthew managed to coax a few words from him, the child was devastated. “This tragedy has wrecked a beautiful perfect family – everyone who knows them is destroyed by sorrow.” Anatoly, Halyna’s father shared.
As per the director Adam Egypt Mortimer, “Halyna was going to be a very famous, very successful DP.” He was even thinking about putting her up for “something.” Moreover, having such a supportive husband, Halyna was on her way to the top. It’s sad to see yet another women cinematographer have lived a half-dream.
What Has Matthew Hutchins Said About Alec Baldwin?
Initially, Matthew Hutchins said that Alec Baldwin was “being very supportive.” The two even sat down for a breakfast alongside the 9-year-old son Andros in Oct 2021, at La Posada in Santa Fe, New Mexico.”
“I don’t think there are words to communicate the situation,” Matthew shared to an insider after the meeting with the three-time Emmy Award-winning actor.
However, fast forward to Feb 2022, Matthew couldn’t hold back as he heard Alec claiming he wasn’t responsible for the fatal on-set shooting, which resulted in the death of his wife.
“Watching him, I just felt so angry,” Matthew shared.
Enraged, Matthew wasn’t just letting Alec talk about his wife’s death “so publicly” with a shed of guilt. Although several industry standards were not practiced, and multiple parties involved, Matthew believes that Alec was one of them.
“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matthew explained.
Just on Jan 2022, Matthew filed a complaint on behalf of himself and his 9-year-old son, claiming Alec “recklessly shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust.”
But the Sante Fe Sheriff’s Office had yet to charge anyone on the case.
