Season 17 of America’s Got Talent saw some impressive talents this year but Hayden Kristal arrived on the stage of the world’s biggest talent show competition perfecting their skills as a comedian. They have four judges to impress Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara.
In the preview, Hayden shared that they were born deaf into a family that doesn’t sign. So, communication was something they always struggled with. Early on, they discovered that comedy was a language everyone understood. They said, “If I say something and you laugh at it, that’s a connection”.
Hayden shared that they were inspired by watching Drew Lynch and DJ Demers. In AGT, they talked that how the Koko Foundation rejected them because of their hearing disability. They made a comedy bit about the possibility of a gorilla sneaking upon them and hurting them. They also laid out questions on how the people with hearing ability would’ve made it out of such a situation any differently.

Hayden’s career as a professional speaker explores the intersections of ability, gender, sexuality, and access – particularly within the domains of activism and social justice – as a result of living at the junction of numerous marginalized identities.
They started their standup career by performing open in open mics and comedy clubs such as Tom Delgado and Courtney Maginnis’s Let’s See What Else, Vermont Comedy Club, Third Coast Comedy Club in Nashville, Tennesse, and Pine Box open mic among others.
