Meet Deb Smith, Kelly Curtis Mother
Deb Smith was in tears when she saw her daughter Kelly Curtis march in with the U.S. team at the Opening Ceremony for Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing.
Deb’s husband John revealed to Town Topics, “It is fantasy and reality, they merged today when I saw Kelly. There are times when it is tough to describe your feelings. I know Deb was in tears. I have seen opening ceremonies since I was 10 on TV not knowing anyone. Seeing her was an experience I thought I would be prepared for, but it was quite emotional.”
Besides athleticism, Deb has played an integral part in Kelly’s life as a mother and as her cheerleader. She has been boasting about her daughter’s journey on her socials. On 14 January 2022, Kelly posted on her Instagram, “It’s now official! She made the Olympic Team!!! So proud of her!”
Whereas, back in September 2021, Deb had posted, “Congratulations to my baby, Kelly, being named to the World Cup team! Her season starts in mid-October and races will be broadcast on NBC or the Olympic channel. So proud of her!”.
