Jacob Dufreche was born to his mother Julie Aime and Lucien Dufreche. Julie worked as a teacher at the Archdiocese of Baton Rouge. Furthermore, she served as a Band Director at Holy Ghost Catholic School. Meanwhile, Lucien is the owner of L F D CONSTRUCTION CO., INC. He incorporated the company on 27 June 1983. He served as a president, secretary, and treasure.
Jacob is the grandfather of Edward Brent Dufreche. Born on 8 January 1922, he attended Ponchatoula High School.
Edward was a graduate of L.S.U. and L.S.U. Law School. He served in WWII from 1942 to 1945 in Northern Africa and Italy in the 338 Field Artillery Battalion, 88th Infantry Division. Also, he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service in a combat zone. He also served in the Korean Conflict as an Artillery Instructor at Fort Sill, OK. After graduating from Law School, he returned to Ponchatoula to open his own law practice and later served as Ponchatoula City Attorney. During that time he had the honor and distinction of arguing a case before the United States Supreme Court.
Moreover, Edward later served as Hammond City Court Judge from 1973 to 1979, Assistant District Attorney in 1966, and in 1980 he became Judge for the Twenty-First Judicial District Court, Division “E”, until his retirement in 1997. In 1954 he was a founding member of 7th Ward General Hospital (now known as North Oaks Health Systems), serving on their Board of Commissioners for fifty years and retiring in 2004 with the title “Chairman Emeritus.”
Furthermore, he served for forty years on the Tangipahoa Parish Library Board, retiring as Library Board Emeritus. A lifetime member of the Ponchatoula Kiwanis Club, he was elected as Lieutenant Governor for the Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Tennessee districts, and was a leading force behind the establishment of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce.
He died on 1 September 2015 at the age of 93. He was survived by his wife of 17 years Ruth Dufreche of Springfield, LA.
