Meet Zara Carr, Leslie Phillips Wife

Turkish social worker Zara Carr married to late actor Leslie Phillips in front of two witnesses in Mayfair, central London on 20 December 2013, Daily Mail reported. According to the outlet, the actor joked that his wife shared the same name as the Queen’s granddaughter, Zara Phillips.

He said, “You know what she is called now? Zara Phillips! She’s royalty. But they haven’t knighted me yet. It’s about time.”

Leslie also spoke of his third marriage saying, “I’m very happy, I’m very happy about it. In fact, I’ve been longing for it. I’m excited for the day and I’m excited for the night. There will be a quiet celebration tonight. Dinner with a few friends.”

The couple had shared a plan to go on a honeymoon to Spain where he had a house.

Zara also spoke about her marriage to Leslie saying, “I feel very good. I feel very nice, very excited. It was a bit of a surprise when he proposed.” Later, the couple was joined by 40 friends and family for the blessing at a church near the star’s home in north-west London.

The congregation sang several Christmas carols, including Hark! the Herald Angels Sing during the 45-minute service. O Little Town of Bethlehem, The Herald Angels Sing, and Come, All Ye Faithful. One guest said: “It was a wonderful ceremony, very moving. Leslie and Zara looked so sweet together.”

Zara reportedly helped Leslie to cope with losing his second wife in 2011. They have known each other for more than 10 years before their nuptials. Leslie added more about his wife saying, “Zara is a wonderful woman, who not only looks good but has an amazing brain. I love her very much. I suddenly realized I don’t have much time and want to make the most of every moment.”

In April 2022, Express.co.uk reported that Leslie had survived two strokes (six months apart) and Zara was the one who saved him. After his first minor stroke, Leslie shared, “I’m too young to pop off just yet. I’ve got everything to live for.” The stroke happened on a bus near his home in Maida Vale, north London on the way back from shopping on Oxford Street.

Fortunately, Leslie survived the ordeal as Zara sounded the alarm early. The Mirror reported that doctors said he wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for his wife’s fast response.

Talking about the ordeal, Zara said, “Thank God I was there to save his life.”

She told the Daily Mail, “Leslie suddenly started leaning on me and was unable to put a ticket in his coat pocket. He had terrible pains in his left arm so I stopped the bus and called an ambulance which took him to University College Hospital in Euston.”

Leslie suffered a second minor stroke, only to be resuscitated by his wife this time. This time, his symptom was a minor seizure, which made him turn “black and blue”. He was given tests at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington but spent the night at home.

Aside from the two strokes, Leslie has had another health scare. After his marriage with Zara, a year before the first stroke, Phillips had to call off their honeymoon so that doctors could inspect a facial lump. He underwent surgery to remove the lump, which wasn’t cancerous.

Leslie was previously married to actress Penelope Bartley in May 1948. They shared four children; Caroline, Claudia, Andrew, and Roger. They eventually ended their marriage in 1965. The actor then fell in love with Angela Scoular who was 21 years his junior, They married in 1982 until Angela died in 2011.
