According to reports, police were called shortly before 6 p.m. to a gas station in Westminster, an Orange County city, and found East with a stab wound to his chest.

Bobby was taken to a trauma center where he succumbed to injuries and died. Trent was identified as a suspect by Westminster police detectives. He received parole after conducting an armed robbery. An arrest warrant had been issued for him on an unrelated parole violation, police said.

Trent was initially characterized by Westminster police as a homeless guy who was known to stay at hotels in Westminster as well as adjacent Garden Grove and Anaheim. Millsap reportedly fled the area after the stabbing. At the time, police had warned that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect description stated Trent as “Male, White, 6‘05” tall, muscular build, bald, tattoos on his head, face, neck, chest, arms, and hands”.

Early Saturday evening NASCAR released a statement acknowledging the death of one of its own. “NASCAR is saddened to learn of the tragic death of Bobby East,” the sanctioning body for stock car racing said. “We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Bobby, a true racer.”
