Who Are Nyesha Arrington Parents?
Chef Nyesha has been cooking since she was 5 years old. Her Korean grandmother, Ai-Soon Lee, introduced her to diverse foods such as bulgogi, octopus, and homemade kimchi. These early culinary experiences definitely shaped Nyesha’s palate development and her philosophy in cooking later.
Nyesha was named a Rising Star by Brad Johnson, then the restaurant critic of Angeleno, while she was serving as Executive Chef at Wilshire restaurant in Santa Monica from 2011-2013. In 2012, Nyesha was recognized by Zagat as one of the 30 Under 30 — LA’s Hottest Up-And-Comers as well as Where LA’s top talent under 30. The winner of a Knife Fight in 2013, a cooking show on Esquire Network, Nyesha returned to the show a year later but as a guest chef judge.
A graduate of the prestigious Culinary School at the Art Institute of California in Los Angeles, Nyesha’s life took a sharp turn after she met Josiah Citrin, Chef/Owner of the acclaimed 2 Michelin Star Mélisse restaurant in Santa Monica. Realizing the raw talent in Nyesha, Josiah appointed her as saucier at Mélisse. Later, Nyesha also worked with legendary French chef Joël Robuchon at his Michelin and Mobil award-winning Las Vegas restaurants, L’Atelier and The Mansion.
Nyesha comes from a highly artistic family. Both her father and sister are passionate about music whereas her mother is a seamstress. The owner of restaurants such as Leona and Native, which are now closed, Nyesha also tried sculpting, watercolor, pointillism, and photography classes, before making a move to become a chef.

Nyesha adores her father John Edward Arrington and her social handles are proof of that. On June 27, 2018, she took to Instagram to share a decades-old picture of her and John, in which he was carrying Nyesha on his shoulders. In the caption, she wrote, “My Dad is my hero, best friend and I am so grateful to him for teaching me the ways of the #Jedi. 😜❤️Forever Love.”
Similarly, Nyesha also had the nicest words to say about her dad on Father’s Day on June 18, 2017. She wrote, “Happy Fathers Day to one of the best guys I know… thank you for teaching me about funk music, thank you for empowering me to be the best me I can be… I love to be your daughter.”

On Mother’s Day (May 10, 2020), Nyesha posted a series of pictures, featuring her mother, Sophia Yvonne Arrington, and her grandmother, and wished them Happy Mother’s Day. She wrote, “… My strong, beautiful, mom.. thank you for making us sit together as a family every night for dinner 🙏🏾. To my grandma Aisoon who got me in the kitchen every chance she got and to my Grandmother Sylvia who I never met because she passed away a month before I was born…”
Taking to Instagram on August 2, 2016, Nyesha revealed that her mother had a stroke in 2008 while she was working at Lemon Moon. And the surprise visit from her mom was Nyesha’s first time seeing her mother walk all the way to the water in 10 years.
