NFL hired him and his fellow cheerleader Napoleon Jinnies, two openly gay men. The pair are classically-trained dancers who have performed throughout their lives but dreamed of being NFL cheerleaders.

“I want to prove that boys can dance, too,” Peron said, according to Hornet. “After college, we’re not given a choice or a chance to do anything after. We’re, like, just told to get a 9-to-5 job and that’s it. But that doesn’t work. I am an artist, I am a creative person.”

Quinton told Good Morning America, “I thought, ‘Why not me? Why can’t I do this?”

Quinton and Napoleon competed against 74 other applicants to secure the spot. At the age of 12, a moment led him to the road to cheerleading history. “I played basketball and baseball for 12 years — was great at it, but I knew it wasn’t it,” Peron told In The Know. “The minute I saw tWitch on So You Think You Can Dance, and he was a Black guy, looked just like me. He was dancing, he was jazz hands-ing, hip-hop dancing, and all that stuff. That was when I was like, ‘Oh, this is it — I can do it, there’s a lane for me.”

“Three years ago, I was at a Lakers game with my best friends, and I caught a glimpse of the Laker Girls performing mid-court,” Quinton revealed to Metrosource. “I recognized a few of them on the court and asked myself, “Why can’t I do that?” I danced with a few of these girls in high school and college, and in fact, I had taught a few of them at various workshops and masterclasses. I decided to call a friend who had been a Rams cheerleader the year prior to asking about auditions.”
