What Happened To Ron Ross?
Ron Ross was fired from Sirius XM in March 2023 after 16 years with the company.
Disheartened, the radio host took to his Twitter on March 7 to write, “Welp, I survived a merger, a heart attack, and a global pandemic, but after nearly 16 years, it’s over. I was laid off from @SiriusXM yesterday in their purge. No more #RonRossMorningShow. Thank you, thank you, thank you for welcoming me into your mornings. We had some fun didn’t we?”
Obviously, this upset many regulars.
“@SIRIUSXM I’m so sad that you canceled Ron Ross on the Pulse. He was such a great DJ & a joy to listen to during my morning commutes. My motivation to continue my SiriusXM subscription just went to 0. Sadly, greed is killing this company and I don’t want to be a part of it,” a fan wrote.
While another added, “So sad to see this! My morning commute hasn’t been the same. Best of luck to you.”
But in Sirius XM’s defense, they did announce that they would be laying off about 475 people, or roughly 8% of its total workforce. The layoffs came after advertising cash began to dry up in response to economic uncertainty.
Ron Ross New Job After Sirius XM
Ron Ross was silent after his March 7, 2022 tweet. So, we don’t know what he was planning for his new job after Sirius XM. However, given his experience, he could easily land a plum job, even if it is in a more localized market. Or, he could launch his own podcast as well.
Now, talking about his experience, Ron worked at Sirius XM for almost 16 years until he was laid off in March 2023. He initially joined the show by hosting a daily national satellite radio/streaming morning show featuring lifestyle stories, listener interactive games, celebrity interviews, and hourly news breaks. Then in 2011, he was promoted to be a program director responsible for all aspects of the 90s on 9 channels. There, he coordinated playlists, wrote imaging, conceived and implemented special programming features, created original content such as the Back in the Day Replay Countdown show, and managed staff.
Prior to joining Sirius XM, Ron worked as a morning show producer at iHeartRadio from April 2001 to November 2006. There, he supported all aspects of a daily live major-market award-winning radio morning show, including writing comedy pieces, liaising with guests, and coordinating personal appearances of the morning show stunt guy. He also compiled, wrote, and delivered hourly newscasts.
Overall, his skill includes Broadcasting, Radio Advertising, Media Relations, Program Management, Writing, and Radio Host.
As for his education, Ross graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School and went on to study radio, television, and film at the University of Maryland from August 1982 to May 1987.
