For couples stuck in the middle ground, Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love gives you two options — either get married or leave! The inaugural season of this show premiered on May 24, 2023, and it saw five couples, all made up of women and nonbinary people, as they searched for the answer.
For these queer couples, tying the knot is an absolute dealbreaker. While one is ready to walk down the aisle, the other one is dragging their feet. So, to decide whether to marry or move on for good, the former issues an ultimatum of eight weeks to the latter. However, during these eight weeks, each person will enter into a trial marriage with a new partner from one of the other pairings. In the end, they are left with two future possibilities.
Our star, Sam Mark was the hopeful one who issued an ultimatum to her partner, Aussie Chau, of over 1 ½ years. She wanted Aussie to be her forever partner, while Aussie would rather live together for a longer period before committing to marriage.
Joining Sam and Aussie for this experimental dating show were their co-stars Lexi Goldberg and Rae Cheung-Sutton, Mildred Woody and Tiff Der, Yoly Rojas, and Mal Wright, and Xander Boger and Vanessa Papa.
Are Sam Mark And Aussie Chau Still Together?
From the looks of it, no, Sam Mark and Aussie Chau don’t seem to be together. The two have stopped following each other on Instagram, and there is also no sign suggesting they’ve remained in touch through any other means.

Looking back, Sam and Aussie first met each other in an online social group for LGBTQ+ individuals during the 2020 pandemic. After texting for a while, the two then decided to take things offline. “When we first touched hands it was like something that you see in the movies. It was like the universe brought us together,” Sam recalled the time she met Aussie. Likewise, Aussie shared, “Time stood still. Yeah, it was just magical. Like, butterflies and rainbows and unicorns… Well, actual butterflies [were there].”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t always “butterflies and rainbows.” After 1½ years of relationship, Sam was more than ready to take the next step — be engaged, get married, and move forward, while Aussie wanted to live together for at least five years before deciding if this bond was really even “meant to be” and if they were open to “go to that marriage state.”
“I feel like she’s the one. I’m just… like my processing takes longer than hers. So I’m hoping [this whole ‘Ultimatum’ experience] will accelerate that,” Aussie explained.
However, in the show, Aussie rather grew close to Mildred Bustillo as Sam found a potential match in Tiff Der. So, of course, when when the time came to make “the choice” for their three-week trial marriage, they both went ahead with their new companions!
According to Tiff, Sam going into their dates without any judgment is what drew him to her. Likewise, Sam found warmth in Tiff like she could discuss any topic under the sun without outrightly feeling like she was walking on eggshells.
In the end, Sam and Aussie concluded the areas they needed to improve in their relationship. While the former finally started standing up for herself instead of being an enabler of others’ behavior due to her compassion, her “ex” partner realized they needed to communicate better.
