Below Deck: Meet Samantha Suarez, Gary King Alleged S*xual Misconduct Victim
Former Below Deck production staffer Samantha Suarez accused the Bravo show of covering up Gary King’s s*xual misconduct. She claimed that Gary had tried to push himself on her during the time she was getting ready for the fourth episode of “Below Deck Sailing Yacht.”
Samantha said that an HR representative for the show dissuaded her from discussing the incident with other members of the production team after it occurred and retaliated against her when she wasn’t asked to return to the show.
“Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement to TheWrap. “We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and training in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”
The DoubleTree by Hilton Olbia-Sardinia in Italy, where the entire cast and crew stayed for the length of the season, is where the sexual misconduct event took place. Samantha was in charge of giving food and drink to cast members according to COVID-19 guidelines, including Gary, who exhibited “difficult” behavior by staying alone. She also helped the talent manager with daily responsibilities.
After taking part in numerous interviews for the show on one day in July, Samantha was in charge of escorting Gary back to his room. She noticed that King was drunk after drinking a “substantial amount of alcohol” — which was not constrained by production. Gary said that while bringing him back, Samantha repeatedly requested him to get into bed with her and to stay in his room. She stated Gary answered the door in his underpants, forced himself on her, and forbade her from leaving the room when she came back with food and water. Gary ultimately let go of Samantha and shut the door behind her, she continued.
“At that point, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was freaking out,” Samantha told Rolling Stone. “It just happened so fast.”
After the incident, Samantha claimed she immediately notified the show’s producers, a co-executive producer, executive producers Courtland Cox and Vivian Choi, as well as the talent manager. She informed the producers that she was no longer at ease with King, and Cox reassured her that if any further instances took place, King would be fired from the show.
Samantha also reported the event to 51 Minds Entertainment’s COO, who is in charge of producing “Below Deck,” the film.
Gary defended himself in the comments on his Instagram post on Thursday after Samantha came forward with her accusations. “I have never sexually harassed someone in my life, and I will never,” Gary wrote in response to a fan who urged him to “get sober, get clarity, and stop your s*xual misconduct.”
When another fan asked whether Samantha was “lying,” Gary replied, “Yes, she is. But I will not get into it through comments. Thanks.” The Bravolebrity responded to a fan who questioned Gary’s decision to keep his social media accounts active by saying he would not “let some lying girl” get to him and that it “seems odd” that this reportedly occurred to her over the course of several seasons.
“It’s so weird, it’s also so far from the truth. She always wanted a platform and unfortunately, I’m the unlucky target,” Gary wrote in his Instagram comments section.
“Please tell me who I’ve harassed from bd … if I did I’m sure they would have said something and not some random person,” Gary continued. “Please can you tell me where I have sexually harassed multiple women … you’re watching the wrong show pal.”
