Meet Sharon McCaughan, Gold Rush Brian McCaughan’s Wife

Brian McCaughan is married to his wife Sharon McCaughan. In the show, Sharon revealed that she and Brian married in 1992 and have been married ever since. Together they “ran every kind of business possible.”

Sharon added, “Brian was a race car driver, we started gold mining in 2012 because the economy “went to sh**.”

Sharon describes how she and her spouse don’t always agree. Their “total opposites,” the newcomer continues, “are obvious to anyone who has worked with us—the drama between Sharon and Brian.”

Her husband and co-founder Brian started out on a Manitoban farm. He started a siding business in Okotoks, Alberta, after pursuing a hailstorm throughout Alberta with little more than a truck and a tool pouch. Despite obstacles such as botched transactions, flooding, and a recession that resulted in bankruptcies, Brian McCaughan’s perseverance and ambition for achievement triumphed.

Overcoming obstacles, he led the establishment of Treadstone Equipment Ltd. In 2013, McCaughan ventured into the Klondike Gold Mines in Yukon, aiming higher. Managing the highs and lows of placer mining in Yukon, the McCaughans’ skill in purchasing and disposing of large machinery helped them get through the years of poor gold recovery.

The couple share two children Gage, 22, and Bryce, 23, McCaughan. Bryce celebrates his birthday on 23 October. Their eldest son, Bryce, tells how he started mining when he was just 14 years old. Bryce, who has nine years of experience, says he entered the gold mining industry straight out of high school.

At the time, Bryce works as an Excavator/dozer operator. He is best known for ““Volunteers” for the night shift, keeps us laughing with his wit, goes back for seconds & thirds (if the cook is good), not answering the two-way, although you may not hear from him all day, the job gets done!”

Gage (nickname Qwage, Greg) celebrates his birthday on 10 August. He is also an Excavator/dozer operator. e is best known for “Ripping to Dawson City in his razor Saturday night, hugging & wrestling with Tusk & Bear.”

In 2018, saw the construction of a dike by Foothills homeowners Brian and Sharon McCaughan as a means of self-defense after their home was submerged under 7.5 feet of water during the 2005 flood. Then, during the 2013 flood, they were struck once more, this time by 13 feet of water.

The McCaughan family requested a taller dike because they were worried about additional property damage, but they were instead given a stop order to completely demolish the dike.

“We’re just trying to protect ourselves until something can happen and us landowners north of High River can be assisted by the Alberta government,” Sharon said at the time. “What’s funny about them doing this to us is that we still have a dike that the MD installed themselves on our property in 2014. So after the big flood, because of the mitigation work, the MD already knew from their studies  that we were gonna be hit worse next time.”

Brian McCaughan added, “If they don’t give us a temporary permit, we have to remove the dike, which in essence floods us. Even in a low flood year, it’ll flood out our business side again, so it’s like a death sentence really. If they tear it down, we’re insecure once again.”
