Netflix’s Physical 100 premiered on January 24, 2023, and within a week it grabbed the No. 7 spot on Netflix’s top 10 TV shows list. Created by Jang Ho-gi, Physical 100 followed 100 contestants — including Shim Eu-ddeum — from various ethnicities, ages, and genders as they competed against each other to prove their physical strength and ultimately for a chance to win the title of “most perfect physique” plus 300 million won (approx USD 243 thousand).
“Fight to the death. Survive to the end.” These were the words that appeared in the show’s trailer. The contestants competed to survive purely with their physical strength.
In the first ep, Kim and other contestants were placed in a massive space where plaster casts of their torsos sat on marble pedestals, arranged in concentric circles around a fountain. They then walked around, admiring each other’s plaster/actual bodies, objectifying and judging each other.
The show also radiated Squid Game vibes as assistants and safety personnel wore gray jumpsuits with most of their faces covered.
So, for the first challenge, the contestants were asked to hang on to a suspended apparatus lifted in the air. Through this, the participants quickly realized that the show was not only a test of brute strength but also endurance and mental strength.
Later, based on how long they lasted, the players were then placed in order from 100 to 1, and in order, they got to choose who they’ll face in the first quest — a fight over a ball.
Overall, 50 matches took place in the same two arenas, just like The Challenge. Yet Physical 100 stood apart from other gaming shows staging these in much more interesting ways and with a massive cast.

But Shim never thought that she’d become a fitness instructor when she was young. Her path towards fitness was infact forced upon her when she was weak and was hospitalized due to an illness. While hospitalized, a doctor told to her to work out as a way to improve her health. She’s been working out ever since.
“My body was weak at the time, but I was born with athleticism. Thanks to the encouragement of my physical education teacher in 12th grade, I was able to see a new light,” she recalled.
The star also revealed that she started her journey by doing 1000 squats a day plus keeping to a strict diet plan. Thereafter, she did bodybuilding for a while before realizing her passion lay in helping others and doing pilates. So now, she’s a pilates instructor. She holds large group sessions that the public can attend and learn basic fitness routines they can perform at home.
Someday, Shim would also like to write 10 books on topics not related to exercise. “I want to write messages of hope so that even just one line can give hope to another person. I want to be an influential person so that many other people can get good energy from me,” she said.
Besides being a fitness instructor, Shim now is also a reality star thanks to her time in Physical 100. She even graced the show’s premiere and met her co-stars on Jan 15, 2023. Later, she took to her IG to write, “Those who fought to the death… It was nice to meet you after a long time and I was happy!”
Shim Eu-ddeum Family
Shim Eu-ddeum grew up in an adoptive family. Her adoptive parents are often featured on IG and always with sweet words for captions. To thank them for everything, she even took them on a trip to Taiwan in November 2019.
After their vacation was over, she took to her IG to share a family picture captioned, “I’m 30 years old, but I’m still daddy’s chewing gum. Mom, Dad, Mother, Father, let’s go on a trip again next time.”
Besides them, Shim is also close to her grandfather. She last met him in March 2019. Although he couldn’t call her name, he recognized her and hugged her twice that day.
As for her siblings, Shim has a twin sister named Shim Areum and another sister named 지혜 @ordinarian_.

Shim Eu-ddeum married her husband Hyung Chul Kim on September 1, 2018.
The two first met back in 2016 thanks to their passion for fitness. Admittedly, it was just after 2 dates that the duo then fell hard for each other and wanted to get married in December 2017. However, since both of them were busy with their work, they postponed their wedding date to September 2018.
Later, for their honeymoon, the lovebirds visited Spain.
Now, after years of marriage, Shim says that she was happy every day. “To have someone next to me who loves, acknowledges, and loves me the way I am, I think this life is truly a blessing,” she added.
Likewise, Hyung is happy to have such a loving wife.
