In a teaser, Sophia is seen storytelling that her father was a fisherman and so from a very early age, she knew that she was going to be inheriting his business and his boat. Yet, as a kid, she said, she did not realize how hard her family worked to keep the boats going. Things changed when she turned 18. By then, the businesses were hers. From that point on, she started working really hard and putting her sweat and tears into the business. With time, her pride for the boats naturally grew. Today, she is dedicated to keeping them alive. She just wants to stick with it.
Her mentor/Captain Jake told Fox News Digital the biggest piece of advice he has given Sophia is to “never quit.”
The new Season 19 promises new blood, new threats, and record-high Alaskan crab prices. The season is expected to be about the new generation of captains and experienced skippers overcoming deadly dangers, uncertainty, and discomfiture in the Bering Sea.
Sophia is in good company this season. For example, she is also joining Linda Greenlaw, the only female swordfishing captain, and survivor of The Perfect Storm. Linda is bringing in her experience and committing to work with Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski’s F/V Summer Bay.
