American actress and television host Melissa Rivers is engaged, PEOPLE reported in Nov 2023.
Sources have claimed that the late Joan Rivers’ daughter displayed a massive 5.6-carat diamond ring during the weekend at BravoCon. The source claims that Melissa said “yes” to her partner of 1.5 years, Steve Mitchel last month on a Mexican beach. While the pair was on vacation at the One & Only Mandarina Resort in Mexico, Steve proposed to his fiancée with a custom design stunning sparkler designed by Melissa’s dearest friend Peter McNeal at McNeal and Grunberg.
According to their accounts, Steve and Melissa reportedly met each other at a mental health seminar held at Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. “I’m the Co-Chairman of the board. He was there as a friend’s plus one,” the bride-to-be confirmed to PEOPLE. “It’s not often that a total stranger comes up to me and just starts talking. We’ve been together now for about a year and a half.”
“He had the guts to come up and talk to her,” shared a source revealed to PageSix, “and the rest is history.”
They also added, “[Mitchel] couldn’t be any more removed from the Hollywood world, which is perfect for her.”
“It’s a big step for both of us and I’m still in complete and total shock, even a month later, but beyond happy,” Melissa told PEOPLE exclusively. “And more importantly, my mom would have approved of the ring. Oh yeah, and of Steve too!”
Melissa, who was previously married to John Endicott for five years until their 2003 split, had a change of heart after years of vowing she would never go down the aisle again.
“All of my friends are joking that I had a pretty good run and almost got to the finish line of staying single for the rest of my life. It’s something that I never believed in my heart of hearts that I would ever do. But, apparently, hell freezes over and pigs do fly,” Melissa further explained jokingly to PEOPLE, “I didn’t see it coming and it’s really not easy to pull a fast one on me. Once Steve shoved some smelling salt under my nose from passing out, I said yes.”
Melissa also confirms that she and Steve are in no hurry to walk down the aisle and have the greatest days of their lives. “We’re taking baby steps. We haven’t planned anything yet. If we do a ceremony and party I can’t imagine it being before 2025. I can guarantee it will be nothing like my first wedding or anything on that level.”
Also, Melissa’s son Cooper Endicott has also given his approval for her engagement and their relationship after Steve called Cooper.
Steve also posted on IG about their engagement writing, “My favorite photo of us! Thank you for saying yes!!”

Son of George Mitchel and Susan Mitchel, Steve Mitchel was one of four children born to his parents. His mom Susan was born on January 9, 1933, in Los Angeles. His parents met each other on a blind date in 1956 and they married on April 27, 1957. Inseparable for 64 years, they raised a large and close-knit family. Home is where she truly shined and built the family foundation.
A major aspect of Susan’s life was her love of the outdoors, athletics, and adventure. Her early years were spent in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she developed a lifetime passion for skiing. She loved to ski and instilled this love in her kids and grandkids.
As the President of the PTA at 3rd Street School, Susan worked hard to make everyone’s experience a solid building block in the foundation of their lives, while famously making her campus entrance in a helicopter, as documented on the front page of the Larchmont Chronicle.
Sadly, Susan passed away on 2 March 2021 after a long battle with dementia. She was survived by her husband George, and other three children Clay Mitchel (Staci), Margaret Cook (Bill), and Charlotte Roach (Brent).
