Before Ariana DeBose held hands with Sue Makkoo at the Oscars After-Party, the pair met in 2017, when working on Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.
DeBose is in a relationship with costume designer and professor Sue Makkoo. Ariana, who previously dated theater props master Jill Johnson, played Disco Donna while Sue, an Arizona State University alum, was the costume associate.
The couple can be occasionally spotted sharing glimpses of their life on social media. Not long ago, Sue even bought and renovated a house for Ariana that was originally built in 1955. She spent years not only renovating and designing but truly perfecting the decades-old cottage into an ideal respite from the chaos of New York City.
Sue, of course, also renovated a beautiful home that was once her grandmother’s to pass it to her daughter, who she had named after the elderly. The designer-mom said it felt right.

Sue Makkoo Is A Single Mother
Other than being Ariana’s partner, Sue also is a single mother of three grown sups, two sons, and a daughter.
Her daughter Adalyn Belle officially got her Master of Science (in Mental Health Counseling) in December 2020. The very beautiful Adalyn is currently a therapist, a Certified Therapeutic Art Life Coach and on the board of Advisors for The Brave House based in Brooklyn, and a voice and creator at Civilized. Sue says Adalyn is her best friend and that she just “plain” loves spending time with her. But then, she also said this bond she has with her kids, they have earned it, as things were not always easy raising a family alone for her or the kids. “There is a feeling between us that we raised each other.”
Sue’s son Noah Wilson, the calm to her storm, likely completed studying Playwright at Webster University in 2019. Now a La Jolla, California resident, he also attended La Jolla High School. The way he puts it, he is usually in his room “panicking over a Tragic Themes paper while eating copious amounts of applesauce.” He turned 25 on 29 May 2021.
Then, there is Harry Wilson who turned 27 on 30 June and is already married. On his Facebook, he mentioned being in youth ministry at La Jolla Christian Fellowship; that he is a Point Loma Nazarene University alum; and currently studying at Azusa Pacific University.
Sue has written blogs about all her kids where once she opened up that Noah has some kind of disability and it was a struggle for him growing up. She said this kid of hers spoke his first words only at three and that there was an army of therapists teachers and family who helped her raise him.

Dad Donald, aka Don, was a brave man who served four years in the navy during the Korean war. After the war, he became a repairman. He often did repair work for a government facility. Later, he also became part of a barbershop group and the church choir. He passed away in June 2019. Other than Sue Don is survived by the other kids, Susan and Thomas Makkoo.
Other than her late dad, it was her mom, who Sue says has instilled in her work ethic. We have also seen Sue grieve the loss of her mother who seemed to have suffered dementia.
