Sylvie Gatrill has died. She passed away over the weekend (19/20) in February 2022.
The Brookside Actress passed away at the age of 70. She battled cancer for a long time, which happens to be the cause of her death. The Liverpool Echo confirmed her death and tribute started pouring in for the actress. Her colleagues at her self-owned talent agency told MailOnline that they were ‘truly heartbroken.
They released a statement that read, “Sylvie meant so much to so many of us. Not only a brilliant actress and director but the most hard-working agent who has been running Allstars Casting for over 20 years. A lot of people wouldn’t be where they are today if it wasn’t for her genuine guidance and support. Guaranteed to make you laugh and a character we will never forget, she will be incredibly missed. As Sylvie wished for, Allstars Casting will continue and hopefully have as much as an impact on the industry as she did.”
Tony Schumacher, The Responder writer tweeted, “So sorry to hear of the passing of the quite brilliant Sylvie Gatrill. Such a talented actress who was so important in helping set the tone of #TheResponder. My thoughts are with her family. #RIP.”
Young star Sonny Beyga also wrote a tribute that read, “‘Rest in peace Sylvie, you were the reason I am where I am today with my acting career.” Whereas, his mom also commented, “Sylvie was a diamond, my son’s agent and teacher at her drama class. She got my son the part in Little Boy Blue playing Rhys Jones. Sonny and I are broken.”

As an actress, Sylvie Gatrill’s first on-screen work was playing Mrs. Cullen in a TV show titled Bread. She appeared on a total of 9 episodes from 1989 to 1991. She had also landed a minor role of Sharon in Fiddlers Three in 1991. Other notable works from her career were playing Lesley Donnelly in Brookeside, Brothel Receptionist in My Kingdom, a screen adaptation of King Lear, Queenie in The League of Gentlement, Janiec Olseen in Little Boy Blue, and Mary in 2022 The Responder alongside Martin Freeman.
In addition to her acting career, Sylvie also ran a training and talent agency named Allstars Casting. She also taught young aspiring artists at Dolphin Dance Studios to sing and act. She had also directed in-house plays at St Helens Theatre Royal and The Epstein Theatre for Regal Entertainments.
Sylvie also taught Speech and drama at Houghton/Jacobs college of Dance and Drama.
Some of her theatre work credits also included Achy Breaky Bride – Theatre Royal, St Helens, Rita, Sue & Bob Too! – Theatre Royal, St Helens, and The Salon – Theatre Royal, St Helens.

According to the tribute paid by Sylvie’s friend on Facebook, her husband was “a brilliant musician, stupendous human being and half of one of the most solid relationships I have ever witnessed.”
Sylvie and her husband worked together on the brilliant “Fall From Grace” at The Liverpool Playhouse in 1994. Sylvie and Steve’s place was the regular party central after every show. Steve and Sylvie used to do an impromptu gig in their friend’s living room.

A friend of Sylvie wrote on Facebook, “Sylvie Gatrill update – the funeral has not been arranged yet it will be at the cathedral. Steve will let me know when he’s arranged it.”

Just thinking as a creative community we could do something if it’s not been sorted k”
Whereas, one other friend Mike Neary stated that Sylvie’s father was a caretaker for a tiny school on Aspinall’s field which backed onto the street where Mike grew up. Sylvie and her friend were raised within yards of each other in Liverpool.
