According to Fox News, Canadian special needs teaching assistant and TikTok star Ava James, whose actual name is Kristin MacDonald, earned $1,000 every two weeks from her employment. However, after learning about her OnlyFans and allegedly refusing to take it down, the school district made the decision to fire her.
Per Kristin, British Columbia’s School District 43 sent her an email on April 28. The email was sent to Kristin MacDonald, but it was really addressing “Ava James,” her alter ego on OnlyFans, a popular social media platform where users can sell original content, including pornographic material, to paying subscribers.
“You’re directed to immediately cease all activity and to remove all online social media accounts including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and OnlyFans,” read the email from the secondary school. “Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.”
“I was advised to deactivate all Ava James social media platforms immediately, including [Instagram], TikTok, and OnlyFans, or possibly be terminated,” she told Fox News Digital. “I did not comply.” The school district’s rules have a “collective agreement” with a clause about “off-duty conduct being ‘appropriate.” Kristin believes this is “up for individual interpretation.”
“I don’t make a livable wage being an education assistant,” Ava told Daily Hive, hours after receiving the cease and desist letter.
Ava has worked in the Coquitlam School District since 2015 and specializes in working with children and teens with special needs. As of Thursday, MacDonald has not been disciplined or terminated from her position at the secondary school (which is not named in this story per MacDonald’s request). Her current career crisis exposes a legal and moral dilemma resulting from merging her job in education with working separately as an adult content creator.
“It makes me sad because I feel like I am good at my [teaching] job,” she says. “And I feel very strongly that I should be able to do both in this day and age in a liberal place such as Vancouver.”
Ava claims she had taken safety measures to keep her OnlyFans and her position in education separate, including creating separate social media accounts, separating her official email and phone number from the OnlyFans account, and blocking coworkers. Even though she made an effort to remain anonymous, her job finally found out about her secret. She makes the assumption that her coworkers learned about her OnlyFans page and shared it internally. Her union president gave her more information about the letter’s context.
“Apparently, there have been complaints by parents saying that their son or daughter has come across some of my socials [related to “Ava James”],” Ava said, noting that she wears nothing less than a bikini and her content is typical for TikTok or Instagram.
