Vontae Johnson On Netflix’s Cheer Season 2

We know that Netflix’s award-winning show ‘Cheer’ was back for season 2. This year the coach who is putting everything he got to make sure Trinity Valley Community College secures the title is head coach Vontae Johnson. Being an alumnus of TVCC himself, he is not ready to lose this time.

A former Cardinal himself, he had earned the spot on Team USA where he won multiple titles including ICU World Champions in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. He is determined to beat team Navarro and their head coach Monica for the first time. Also, Vontae is thrilled about being filmed for the show.

He shared with Pop Culture that it was a great experience. He commended Greg Whitley and his crew for capturing TVCC throughout their process to be able to get their competition in Daytona.

Fun Fact: Vontae, unlike his rival coach Monica, doesn’t have plans about joining Dancing With The Stars which he revealed while interviewing with ET.

Man in his early thirties, Vontae Johnson hasn’t tied the knots yet. Furthermore, he appears to be single based on his socials. However, some of his friends have already settled down. In November 2019, he posted that his best friend @alykahoe got married and he made a late post. In the post, he wrote, “Nothing can beat watching special people in your life take that final step and getting married. I am beyond blessed to have been a part of your special day.”

In the same way, Vontae celebrated the marriage of another friend in November 2021. But, he is in no rush to find the one as of this writing.

Vontae Johnson Career

Vontae Johnson knew from early on that he’d have to stay focused to create opportunities if he was to escape from the life that he lived. As he knew that he could rely on his agility, stamina, and competitiveness, he resorted to playing sports. This led him to submerge into the world of Cheer.

“I think we all have that thought when you’re growing up in the hood, that you need to be good at something to get out of the situation that you’re handed,” Vontae shared. “Better be good at something, or you’ll be stuck here, so sports was the easiest way out for us.” Therefore, not only did he play basketball and football, but to compensate for his smaller physique, Vontae also consistently practiced to be better than most.”

His athleticism caught the eye of his high school cheer coach and added him to his squad. Vontae then went on to master the craft of cheer and earned a cheer scholarship which helped him to further his studies.

Vontae Johnson attended West Port High School and after graduation, he enrolled at Trinity Valley Community College followed by Sam Houston State University. As for his job, he coached National Cheerleaders Association as a Head Instructor. He also became Cheer Coach at Trinity Valley Community College.

Vontae Johnson Family

Vontae Johnson didn’t have a very pleasant upbringing growing up in Ocala, Florida. His parents split when he was just a child. Plus, the family struggled financially although his mother worked hard to provide for the family. He and his 11 family members shared a four-bedroom apartment and their meals mostly comprised Ramen noodles.

He has at least three siblings, his brothers Robert Griffin III and Frank Niddy, and a sister Raneka Johnson. Robert Griffin III currently lives in Ocala, Florida, and has three sons. Robert is listed on Vontae’s Facebook profile and goes by the handle name (@RippShiT). Moreover, Frank, who is on IG, Facebook (@frank.niddy.547), and Instagram (@frank_niddy1), celebrated his 22nd birthday on 19 May 2015.
