Mallory Beach Friend: Who Is Connor Cook?
South Carolina’s Mallory Beach on the day of her boating accident was with five of her friends that included her best friend Connor Cook and South Carolina’s disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh’s younger son Paul Murdaugh. At the time, Connor was dating Mallory’s best friend Miley Altman. Whereas, Mallory was in a relationship with Connor’s cousin Anthony Cook.
On February 23, 2019, six friends made the decision to travel on Paul Murdaugh’s boat to a home party on Paukie Island, South Carolina. The group also included Paul’s girlfriend and one-third of the M’s trio Morgan Doughty (Miley and Mallory are the others).
The six of them stayed up late at the Oyster Roast house party. After that, Paul and Connor made the decision to go to a bar in Beaufort. On February 24, 2019, the group arrived at 12:45 am, with the two going to the bar and the others staying at the pier. While Paul used his brother’s ID, Connor used a fake.
They came back sometime around one in the morning, and everyone boarded the boat once more. Nevertheless, it collapsed at around 2:20 in the morning, sending Paul, Anthony, and Mallory into the ocean. Mallory did not reappear when the other two boys did, which prompted Connor to call 911.
Connor was actually 19 years old at the time of the incident. The accident left him with a fractured jaw and a gash to his face that he is still bothered by. Although the police did show up quite fast, they were unable to locate Mallory right away. This eventually led to a lengthy search. But tragically, about 8 days later, her remains were discovered.
It’s also crucial to remember that Anthony remained on the scene as the others were brought to the hospital. Consequently, in various statements, the majority of them insisted that Paul was drunk when he operated the boat. Yet only Connor was requested to take a sobriety test.
The fact that Paul had already admitted that Connor, and not him, was in control of the boat’s steering was the reason for the same. Anthony, though, claimed Paul was obsessive about being in charge of the boat and had refused to let anyone else drive. Nonetheless, Connor did originally admit to authorities that he couldn’t recall who was driving.
Connor also stated in his statement, “I remember seeing the bridge, and that’s about it.”
Where Is Connor Cook Now?
After Paul and his mother Maggie Murdaugh’s heinous murder, the Murdaugh family and law enforcement tried to place the blame on him. In a deposition, Connor claimed that Paul’s father Alex had come up to him in the hospital but not to ask if he was okay, adding, “I was told for one by Alex Murdaugh that I didn’t need to tell anyone who was driving.”
Furthermore, he said Alex told him “everything was going to be all right. I just needed to keep my mouth shut and tell them I didn’t know who was driving and that he’s got me.”
In September 2021, Connor filed a lawsuit against Paul’s alcohol seller, Alex Murdaugh, his son Buster, the convenience store, and the salesperson. a rumored rightful claim because he has consistently insisted that he only ever drove the boat when Paul left it unattended to quarrel with his girlfriend and it was either in neutral or out of control.
In terms of his present situation, it appears that Connor has maintained a fairly low profile ever since the tragedy. He appears to still be living in South Carolina.
