The Great Pottery first launched back in 2015, and it has always been the home for participants of all ages. Likewise, even this season, the contestants ranged anywhere from the 20s to even 50s. But none of them were second to any, skill-wise.
Well, talking about AJ Simpson, they fell on the younger group of contestants. Joining AJ this season were Anna McGurn (57), Bill Thomas (63), Cellan (23), Christine Cherry (57), Jenny Cobb (43), Josh (27), Lucinda Lovesey (58), Miles Johnson (50), Nick Robatto (43), Tom Demeranville (43), and Zahra Jabir (32). AJ Simpson had a partner named Celda Mae Tyndall while still participating in The Great Pottery Throw Down in 2022. While we’re not completely sure, we believe that the two first met while attending Gray’s School of Art.

Talking a little about AJ’s partner, Celda is a Business Executive from Aberdeen, Scotland born on July 9, 1995. However, she is British and only resided in Scotland.
According to Celda’s FB, she attended Bell Baxter High School, Fife College Jewellery, and finally Robert Gordon University — Gray’s School of Art from 2018 to 2021 for her bachelor’s degree in three-dimensional design.

Trivia: Celda is very creative with her body. She often changed her hair color and has tatted her body with flowers and her cute dog Luna.
What Does AJ Simpson Do For A Living?
By now it should already be clear that AJ Simpson is a potter.
A design graduate, AJ is a self-labeled “Total Ceramics nerd” who loved potting blobfish-shaped cups and pots. AJ’s practice involved taking local materials such as clays and rocks and incorporating these into functional ceramics. “Recycling clay is a big part of my practice that I don’t show on here very often,” AJ shared.
It seems that all of AJ’s trimmings, scraps, and failed pots went into a big bucket for recycling. It was then mixed with water and dried out until it was of a good consistency to wedge back into usable clay.
As of 2022, AJ was focused on making a series of pottery using local Aberdeen granite in clay bodies and glazes. Also, alongside this, AJ enjoyed exploring the more novel side of ceramics through sculpting “blob” figurines.
So why “blob,” you ask? Well, these blobs combined AJ’s enjoyment of illustration and passion for ceramics. Each blob was unique and had its personality, “I love creating these little characters and seeing how they can make people smile.” AJ mentioned.
AJ was also part of the Aberdeen Ceramics Studio team — working to create an open-access ceramics studio for beginners through to established makers.

On the Halloween of 2020, AJ made a little number of ceramic pumpkin lanterns and put them up on Etsy. It was sold out before AJ knew it.
The next year, AJ then went on to become a part of the D.A.S (Deemouth Artist Studios) Christmas 2021 pop-up market. It lasted from November 27 to 28.
