Anthony Templet Bio, Today, Mother, I Just Killed My Dad

After Girl In The Picture, Skye Borgman is back with another three-part true-crime docu-series I Just Killed My Dad. The show unfolds the story of one teenager Anthony Templet who shot and killed his father. However, the reason why he killed his dad is the intriguing part of this case.

The show revolves around abduction, coercion, dominance, and murder, which has disturbing parallels with her most recent picture. It’s a study of silent, invisible abuse and the trauma and tragedy it can bring, as well as—in a surprising twist for this bleakest of genres—a story about the criminal justice system actually working as it should, beginning with a seemingly open-and-shut case before peeling back layers to reveal a thoroughly rotten core.

Meet Anthony Templet, The Subject Of Netflix’s I Just Killed My Dad

The story dates back on 3 June 2019 when Anthony Templet killed his father Burt Templet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He then called 911 and confessed his crime. When police arrived, they found the 17-year-old waiting for them, and in a recent interview, Anthony says he was startled that he was handcuffed and taken away because he expected the problem to be dropped after a brief talk. This was not the only weird thing about the situation.

Anthony claimed he shot his father in self-defense, although he had no bruises to show for it, and the house was nice and orderly—except for a crack in Burt’s bedroom door, which Anthony claimed was caused by his father attempting to break into the locked room to get at him.

If that didn’t bode well for Anthony, the fact that he’d taken out two loaded pistols that evening (both owned by Burt) suggested that he wasn’t frantically trying to save his own life, but that he had a deliberate intent to kill—a notion Anthony nonchalantly confirmed, explaining that he wanted both guns in his possession in case one didn’t work.

Both Assistant District Attorney Dana Cummings and Sergeant William Brown believed the evidence pointed to murder, and Anthony’s flat, emotionless manner in his subsequent interrogation-room encounter with Brown only reinforced their belief that they were dealing with a probable sociopath.

According to Anthony’s story, he was awakened on the night in question by his father, who was rummaging through his phone and discovered that Anthony was secretly communicating with his stepmother Susan, who had recently moved out of the house with her son Peyton. Following an altercation about this violation of privacy, Anthony got so terrified of Burt that he collected the man’s weapons and fired three shots, two of which hit their target.

Burt apparently pleaded with his son to stop, but Anthony showed no mercy. In addition, Anthony testified that he had pursued his father into a neighboring restroom before shooting—an act that contradicted the concept that he had no other options since he was in imminent danger. On the surface, there wasn’t much to this story, and news sources at the time dismissed it as just another of Louisiana’s usual homicides.

Later, the justice system learned that Anthony was the way he was because of his abusive upbringing. Later, the investigation revealed Burt as an abusive alcoholic person. He had tormented and terrorized his first wife Teresa Thompson. Later, he snatched their Anthony and fled to Louisiana, where he’d been hiding out for the better part of 11 years.

To keep it a secret, he didn’t let Anthony attend school. He had also installed a surveillance camera to keep watch and installed GPS tracking devices on Anthony and Susan’s phones.

What Is Anthony Templet Doing Today?

Anthony Templet faced second-degree murder at first. Later. the penalty was eventually lowered to manslaughter after the prosecution determined that he was acting in self-defense following years of abuse. He will serve five years of supervised probation with credit for time served after pleading no contest to insignificant homicide in 2021.

Anthony’s lawyer added after the court ruling, “When I saw this injustice, I said, ‘Absolutely, no way should this kid be in jail’. Well, that’s the outcome we have. It may not be the thing we have hoped but this is an imperfect system. We try to find the best possible justice and I think we got that today.”

Anthony, who appeared on the show, said, “I didn’t have any contact with the outside world. He always found a way to make me feel like I was doing wrong.” He also recalled that his father had a “hair trigger temper” and that “his moods could change in a second”.

“I didn’t want to kill him, I didn’t want him to kill me,” Anthony said in the documentary.”It was kind of ‘do or die.”

Anthony Templet Mother

Anthony Templet was born to his mother Teresa Thompson. Overjoy filled Teresa when she discovered that her son was OK. “I was just so happy, I was jumping up and down and screaming, ‘They found him,'” Teresa said in I Just Killed My Dad. However, her happiness came with a shock at the end of the conversation.

Teresa said that she hadn’t seen her son since 2008 after Burt kidnapped him from her. At the time, Anthony was only 5 years old. She said that her ex had persuaded a judge in his own Louisiana to grant him sole custody. In the three-part documentary series, court records show he’d concealed his history as a domestic abuser, including time in prison for assaulting Thompson when she was pregnant.

Elena, Anthony’s aunt, revealed that Burt tricked Anthony into believing that his mother was “just a junkie, had no use for him, didn’t care for him and there was no reason to go looking for her.”

Teresa shared with the filmmakers about the relief she felt at being able to hug her “baby” again. After learning about the complications of Anthony’s case, a genealogy expert tracked her down in 2019. She expressed that she was longing for their reunion in the documentary. “I’ve been looking for you since day one,” she explained.
