Meet Brianna Burrell, The New Miss Alabama 2023
Brianna Burrell competed as Miss Baldwin County and walked away with the title of Miss Alabama 2023 and a 15 thousand dollar cash scholarship. On top of that, she also earned two preliminary awards in evening gown and talent.
The top 5 finalists this year were: Brianna Burrell, Miss Baldwin County (Miss Alabama 2023), Emma Terry, Miss UAB (First Runner-Up), Ibby Dickson, Miss University of Alabama (Second Runner-Up), Hannah Adams, Miss Birmingham (Third Runner-Up), and Abbie Stockard, Miss Trussville (Fourth Runner-Up).
The epitome of everything that Miss Alabama represents, Brianna has already started her duties less than 12 hours after being crowned. She was last seen talking with one of her mentors, Kalyn Chapman, who was the first Black Miss Alabama and is also from Mobile.
“Now I’m here with the crown on my head, texting her, ‘Look, I did it, I did it,” Brianna said. “Not just for her, not just for me, but for the next Black Miss Alabama, for the next contestants who are going to follow me because they saw themselves in my work.”
Overwhelmed with the feat, she added, “It’s been a whirlwind of emotions and I’m still on an adrenaline rush, but it’s a confirmation and just an amazing sense of accomplishment.”
The Miss Alabama 2023 will spend the next year serving Alabama at public appearances, motivating others, furthering her community service initiative, and finally representing Alabama at the Miss America competition
To prepare for Miss America, Brianna said she will continue to work on her vocal prowess, which is her favorite part of the competition, and also draft a wardrobe that displays who she is.

Brianna Burrell Family
Brianna Burrell comes from a family of five.
Her father, Cedric Burrell Sr. joined Military Sealift Command and sailed the oceans until 1991. Then, he began his adventure with the e oilfield operations in the Gulf of Mexico where he worked for marine operators such as Cheramie Botruc, Tidewater Marine, Southern States Offshore, Global Industries, G&G Shipping, and more.
Now, over 25 years later, Cedric is the captain of Millers Launch. Before this, he captained Smith Maritime Ocean Towing and Salvage, Gulf Offshore Logistics LLC, Harvey Gulf International Marine, and Marine GIS.
As for her mother, Carolyn Burrell is a Midwest College of Theology graduate who worked as a Medical Claims specialist. “I am a Woman of God, a dedicated wife, mother, and friend…I Love Life,” she said.
Cedric and Carolyn turned 57 and 61 years of age respectively in 2023.
Talking about her siblings, her sister Erica Ambrose is still in school. She loves cooking and dancing. On the other hand, her brother, Cedric Burrell ll graduated from the University of Mobile in 2023 and now is a musician.
Trivia: Brianna has an aunt named Valecia Fane and a cousin named Nikki Nicole.

Brianna Burrell Job
Brianna Burrell graduated from the University of South Alabama with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy in 2021. During her time there, she was an Institutional Review Board Student Assistant and an intern at Feeding the Gulf Coast.
Right after graduation, Brianna then started a community service initiative named SAVE-A-STEM, which encourages engagement for students of color and resources for underfunded schools. I saw myself in this platform,” Brianna said. “I saw myself in this community service initiative. Back in 6th grade when I was the only black girl in the science club where time and time again, I had to fight for my voice to be heard, my intelligence not to be undermined and my work to be credited. And just my presence was an advocacy of itself.”
The initiative has three goals: funding, representation, and curriculum development.
According to Brianna, already over $3,000 has been raised just for Baldwin County and they are looking to expand across the state.
Besides this, Brianna is also an author who penned the children’s book Investigation Nation, on diversity and working together to highlight contributions and inventors of color. “This book takes a look into the diverse world of inventors and inventions for students to explore,” she wrote.
