BBC Two’s The Great British Sewing Bee returned for its 8th installment on April 27, 2022, and it saw a group of talented home sewers including Brogan Sommerville who were ready to impress judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant.
All excited for the show’s premiere Brogan took it to her IG on April 19 to write, “Well the secret is well and truly out… I’ll be buzzing onto your tv screens next week.” Also, she added that she felt blessed with all the well wishes and lovely comments coming her way. “Your support means the world so from the bottom of my heart…thank you,” she added.
Joining Brogan this season were her co-contestants — Man Yee, Annie, Cristian, Mitch Bridgewater, Marni, Steve, Debra, Richy, Gill, Chichi, and Angela.
On the first ep, alarmed by how little she had packed compared to other contestants on the show, Brogan confessed that while all other sewers had brought full sewing kits with them with lots of fancy tools, the only thing she had with her was a set of loop turners.

Creative from a young age, Brogan always loved to be involved in some kind of craft. However, her passion for sewing didn’t come along until she received her first sewing machine for Christmas from her parents. Thereafter, Brogan then started watching sewing tutorials online and made her first garment — a tweed cape complete with sparkly love heart buttons, which she wore for school.
According to the Sewing Bee contestant, her passion for sewing came naturally. She didn’t have anyone to each her. It was only through trial and error that she flaunts her skills today.
As a sewer who defined her style to be “very girly and feminine,” she enjoys replicating high street clothes for herself which are chic and ultra-feminine. Even on a supermarket run, she’s the kind of person to make a fashion statement by wearing a handmade puff sleeve creation
Also, Brogan admitted that she was “a bit of a selfish sewer.” She mainly sew for herself and didn’t spare much time for other work outside of her job as a teacher. But then again one of the reasons Brogan started sewing was because it allowed her to portray her own personal style through everything she wore.
