The Great British Sewing Bee is back on BBC for the eighth season. The show is back on BBC One and premiered on 27 April with 12 ambitious sewers all hoping to take the title. A few changes have been made to the show as the new host of the show is Sara Pascoe who welcomed the competitors vying for the title. The show was previously hosted by comedian Joe Lycett.
Despite a few changes, the two judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young remain intact and have returned to judge the competitor’s work. The tasks which help crown the winner include a transformation challenge, and the final test Made to Measure when they have to make a full outfit.

The episode began with the Pattern Challenge, which required the sewers to create a small skirt with two patch pockets and piping around the edge. They had to manufacture the skirt out of Yorkshire wool from the haberdashery, which was heaped high, and they could either make their piping or choose from a ready-made variety.
The contestants had 2 hours and 45 minutes to make their creations, with Esme dispensing the warning: “The pockets will need to be symmetrical because if they’re not, we’ll notice.”
The winner of the first challenge was Angela followed by Marni coming in second, and Brogan in third. The second challenge was the Transformation Challenge where they were instructed to be creative and use their imagination. It was Marnie’s ’80s style top that won them over.
After placing 1st, Marnie said: “I am surprised, I am a child of the ’80s! Sometimes I feel like I’m not inventive but I’ve done OK so far.”
In the first episode, Mitch was the contestant to be sent home.
