Brooke Wyman On Farner Wants A Wife
Brooke Wyman, who grew up in Sarasota and was often around horses, says it’s not out of the ordinary for a self-described city girl to be drawn to a cowboy on the Fox dating show “Farmer Wants a Wife.” A St. Petersburg resident and alum of Sarasota High School, is among the 20 hopefuls still standing, hoping to be paired with one of four industrious farmers on the second season of the resurrected show, hosted and curated by country music icon Jennifer Nettles.
Nathan Smothers, one of the farmers, has been raising cattle and citrus in Florida for four generations. Wyman’s friend from high school brought up the show.
“She said I should apply and thought I’d be a great fit because she knew I was looking for love because I was single,” Brooke said.
Brooke claimed to have felt the support of the production crew and the other ladies in competition with her throughout the September and October filming. “They are filming a reality TV show, but they do want someone to end up together. They do want marriage,” she said. “You have all this support to date the farmer and fall in love and get married. You have a team behind you.”
Having cameras follow every move didn’t bother her.
“I was excited to be put out of my comfort zone. You’re letting your guard down and you’re both in the same boat,” she said. “I felt a lot of positivity.”
“I was not in control. The producers and wranglers that were on set were in control. It was a great thing that I was able to let go to be able to give the show my journey,” she said. “We all have our day-to-day activities, walking my dog, going to gym, going to work. And then to walk away from all that … I didn’t know if I would struggle with it, but I had the best time ever.”
In a phone interview, Brooke watches the tenses of her responses to Ty Ferrell, the team roper, so as not to reveal anything about how their relationship progresses. Ty, one of four men searching for love with specific categories of women who may initially seem like mismatches, is the father of a 12-year-old daughter whom he refers to as his “first lady.”
The guys choose five ladies apiece to spend a significant amount of time with them on their farms and ranches in the most recent debut episode. Wyman was one of his five options; on their first “date,” she told Ferrell that she liked the scent of horse manure. She didn’t mind not having a phone or a car or even knowing what would happen the next day.
When Brooke left her house to shoot on film last September and October, she had been unmarried for almost three years. Her employment, a few close friends, and her parents—who still reside in Sarasota—were the only ones who were permitted to know her whereabouts.
Since going back home, it was difficult for her to remain silent about what occurred, but luckily, not many of her friends have inquired. Because each woman in the series was so unique, there was no true sense of competitiveness among them.
“I want someone to like me for me. There’s no reason for me to compare myself. If he likes her and not me, that’s fine. I’m not going to change the way I am. I believe the person I fall in love with and marry will love me for all that I am.”
“If you do find love, maybe you would make that decision to be with the person you love,” Brooke said.

Little does she know, she has. I’ve been pleased with a mother who pushes me to be better every day. She wants me to see the world and that is why I will never forget our mother-daughter trips. The most beautiful thing about my mom is her cooking and dinner parties. She really is the life of the party and that is why my high school friends still come over when I’m in town. Brooke also has a sister named Taylor Keenan.
