Meet Cellan Cox, he is one of the 12 participants that competed in Channel 4’s ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ in 2022. When the show initially aired in 2015, it received a lot of great responses. You’ll meet judges Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller, as well as hosts, Siobhán McSweeney and Ellie Taylor, in the sixth season.

Back in December 2021, Cellan made it to the news of Mid Sussex Times when Lindfield studio at Great Walstead School was open for the general public on 4 December. He and a team of fellow artists from Brighton University renovated the school’s art studio courtyard and use the shared space to create art and offer workshops to children and adults.

Cellan Cox has a job as a teacher working at The Clay Studio. The clay studio was founded by Eunice Locher who taught ceramics and pottery classes at Emerson College in Forest Row in 2000. After working moving to Portugal in 2007 to open a Pottery and Retreat Centre and moving back to Sussex in 2016, she founded the teaching studio in Groombridge, and “Eunice Locher Ceramics” became “The Clay Studio”.

Cellan was first introduced to clay five years before he graduated from Brighton University. He graduated from the university with BA (Hons) in 3D Design and Craft course. His works mostly focus on joining wood and ceramics in furniture.
The Brighton resident is continuously improving his ceramic skills, with the main interest in throwing, particularly with larger pieces. He worked on a project called ‘Creating Spaces‘ which was about forming areas, within the home, that are dedicated to a specific aspect of daily life.
With that in mind, Cellan aimed to make a furniture collection specifically designed for this purpose. He wanted to create a space where the sole purpose is to relax and socialize with friends and family. After the COVID-19 pandemic, he hoped to create a place that would sit in someone’s home that allowed them to separate themselves and step away from work, whether it’s for an hour or the evening.
