Netflix’s reality series Queer Eye returned for its sixth installment on Dec. 31, 2021, and it was all about Texas. The Fab Five (Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, and Jonathan Van Ness) this season helped a new group of heroes — called Texas heroes — and Chris Baker was one of them.
According to Chris, it was “such an honor” for him to be chosen as one of Austin’s heroes for “such a beautiful and compelling show.” He shared that the show was “incredible, and life-changing,” and implored his fans to watch the whole process unfold over Netflix.
“What a joy not only to learn all about ways to care about myself but to also spread the word of TOOF’s mission and vision with the world,” he added.
The other heroes joining Chris this season were — Terri White (a dance instructor), Angel Flores (a trans barbell athlete), Jamie (from Safe in Austin), and Dr. Jereka Thomas (founder of a COVID-19 testing center for underserved communities).

Elizabeth arrived at TOOF with 11 years of experience in homeless, housing, substance use, and mental health services. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Elizabeth brought skills in social interventions and systemic change to elevate TOOF’s operations and collaborative involvement in the continuum of homeless and housing care in Austin.
Talking about Chris’s kids, he shares a son and a daughter with Elizabeth. Their firstborn Althea turned 9 on December 23, 2021.

Chris Baker Career
Chris Baker is an executive director of an Austin nonprofit organization called The Other Ones Foundation. He started the foundation back in the summer of 2017 to make the world a better place for people affected by homelessness and poverty.
Reportedly, TOOF’s inaugural project was “Workforce First”, a partnership with the city that paid unhoused people to clean abandoned homeless encampments and city parks.
Over the years, Chris has worked several jobs in the field of homeless services and activism. But he is also a musician, and writer at heart. He sings, plays guitar, and is pretty good at it. Before starting the nonprofit organization, he has also worked at a few music festivals.
Furthermore, he is also a fine public speaker. One of his remarks that touched us was his idea of “home” — “I subscribe to the idea that home is a concept. It’s a nebulous thing. It’s not a place or a building necessarily, but having ‘homefulness’, a house helps with that.”
