BBC’s The Great British Menu is back for its 17th installment and guess who’s back too? Dave Critchley! The guy who was pitted against Kirk Haworth, Dan McGeorge, and Ashwani Rangta on the first day, and sent home on the second in season 16.

Ep 1 of The Great British Menu Season 17 kicked off on February 1st, 2022, and it saw over 24 chefs representing 8 British regions (at least 3 from each), all geared up to make their region proud. Among them, Dave Critchley joined the North West team alongside Sam Lomas (Glebe House), Stevie Lamb (The Orangery at Rockcliffe Hall), and Caroline Martins (Blossom Street Social).
For those who don’t know the eight British regions included Central, Scotland, the South West, the London South/East area, the North West, Wales, the North East, and Northern Ireland.
Ben Orpwood, Liam Dillon, and Sally Abe were the chefs from the Central.
All excited to make his second appearance on the show, Dave shared, “I am looking forward to being involved with Great British Menu again as it was such a great experience last time.”
Also, the chef went on to add that he was given “a second bite of the cherry” and he intended to make the most out of it! His game plan? Well, this season he wants to “go one step further and to make it to the judges’ chamber” delivering the Chinese culinary arts he’d been learning for the past two years.
Promoting himself for the second time, Dave took it to his IG on Feb 3, to write, “With the time nearly upon us for a return to THAT kitchen here’s a throwback to last year.”

Dave Critchley got married to his wife Karen A Critchley @kswarbs back on August 22, 2013. The two share a kid named Joshua and were still together as of 2022.
His wife, Karen is a public health expert who joined Public Health Institute (formerly known as Centre for Public Health) in 2006. Initially, her job there was to work inside the Criminal Justice Team as a Data Administrator for the Drug Interventions Programme.
In 2013, Karen then joined Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group (TIIG) as a Public Health Researcher/Analyst and became the project lead within a year managing the intentional and unintentional injury data.
Besides working with the intelligence group, Karen also supervised student dissertations on the BSc Environmental Health and Public Health courses and the MSc Public Health programs.
Her academic qualification includes — an MSc Public Health and a BA (Hons) Fine Arts degree from Liverpool John Moores University, received in 2017 and 2005 respectively.
