Though Marion ran into trouble with the law, he was a star athlete and a gentleman. He had countless admirers but was he with someone he was ready to spend his life with?

Sadly, there are no answers available to that question as of this article. He maintained a very private personal life. Though Marion was on social media, he was almost invisible and didn’t share much including details about his love life. Surely he dated a few women, and we can tell he was raised as a gentleman by his parents who were married for more than three decades.

However, his dating life was completely shrouded in mystery to his fans. Hence, there was no mention of any girlfriend or a prospective wife when people who knew him were paying tributes to him. Sports director and anchor Chuck Miketinac wrote as a tribute, “I won’t pretend to know who Marion Barber III was as a man, but this is what I will always remember. The last time I saw Marion was after a training camp practice at the Alamodome back in the day, and he had just walked off the indoor field into the parking lot after practice, still in his football gear (minus shoulder pads) and signed autographs for a bunch of little kids for about 10 or 15 minutes. No security or PR around him, just MB3 doing something kind for others. I’ll also remember this from HBO’s Hard Knocks. A man with many gifts, for sure. RIP.”

Marion Barber III Family

Born to Marion Barber Jr. and Karen Barber., Marion Barber III (MB3) was the eldest of three sons born to his parents. Marion Jr and Karen completed 40 years of marriage in 2022.

Marion turned 60 years old in September 2021. She attended Chadsey High School and is on Facebook (@marionkaren.barber).

He hailed from a family with four generations of athletes and three generations of the players in the NFL.

Marion’s father, Marion Barber Jr. played seven seasons with the New York Jets in the 1980s. He was in the second round of the NFL Draft and had a successful NFL career. The family later settled in Plymouth with his wife Karen and three sons: Marion III, Dominique, and Thomas.

Both Marion III and his father played for the Golden Gophers, and the younger Barber is second on the school’s career list with 35 rushing touchdowns. Marion Jr. worked as an educational assistant at Armstrong High School in Plymouth. He also taught driver’s-ed and coaches the 9th-grade football team.

Marion Jr grew up in Detroit. Speaking with WCCO, he added, “Pretty much grew up in a house with a single mother, my mom did remarry. My stepfather passed, during my senior year in high school”.

Marion’s younger brother Dominique was a star athlete at Wayzata, where he was selected for the SuperPrep Midwest Team and PrepStar All-Midwest Region. In 2004, he was named all-state and all-county as a defensive back and was an all-conference/area selection as a running back. He was also a leading scorer as a left-wing on a talented Wayzata hockey team that included future NFL’s Blake Wheeler.

Later, he played football with the Golden Gophers. Houston Texans picked Dominique in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Dominique tied the knots with his wife on 2 March 2013.

Meanwhile, Thomas, the youngest Barber, played at Armstrong High School in Plymouth. He was an exceptional 235-pound linebacker who was a foundation of the defense and also a foundation for team character. Thomas was an Academic All-Big Ten. He was an All Big-Ten Honorable Mention and tied for second in the Gopher’s all-time history with seven fumble recoveries.

Thomas received other significant awards as a Gopher, like the Neil Fredenburg Award for love of the game, and the RTB Trust Award for players that have earned the most trust of their teammates.

As for Thomas, he is in a relationship with his girlfriend.
