Eileen Gu was born to her American father in San Francisco, United States on 3 September 2003. Chinese media often referred to her as the daughter of a Chinese mother and an American father. New York Times reported that her father who remains entirely anonymous had a curated persona on media.
But there is no public record of Gu’s father. She declined to comment when asked if she knew anything about him.
Then on 8 February 2022, a man named Ray Sidney was alleged to be her father. He had posted younger pictures of Eileen with him and the man apparently went viral on Chinese social media as claimed by one of Ray’s friends on Facebook. He had initially joked about Eileen being his daughter in comments.
But, Ray dated Eileen’s mom Yan for a few years. He apparently met Yan after Eileen was born which Ray had shared in the comment so he is definitely not the father of Elieen.
Not only people jumped to conclusion that Ray was Eileen’s father because of the post but also because of the fact that he had attended and graduated from Harvard University as rumored.
