TLC’s newest Season 5 of Unexpected returned on 6 March 2022.
The show is a mix between 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom and like old times, it documents three pregnant teen girls as in 16 & Pregnant and combines their stories over multiple episodes like Teen Mom.
Now, Emersyn Potter whom we are about to discuss in the rest of the writing is one season’s newcomer cast member.
Emersyn Potter On TLC’s Unexpected
Emersyn documents her first pregnancy on TLC’s Unexpected by the look of things so far struggles with strict rules placed on her by her mother, Erica, while also dealing with her boyfriend/baby daddy, Mason Ramirez not yet prepared to be a daddy.
The baby that has not been yet born on the show, has already been welcomed into their life in the real world in June 2021. It’s a son named Mateo.
Even Mason’s mother Shannon is involved in the whole drama. While reflecting on the guilt she felt about Emersyn’s teen pregnancy, we have heard the mother say “I do not believe that Emersyn would have gotten pregnant if I had not been incarcerated” in a confessional.
Joining Emersyn, Mason and the rest on this season are fellow newcomers Kylen Smith and boyfriend Jason Korpi and returning stars Tyra Boisseau and boyfriend Alex Wilson, Tiarra Boisseau and boyfriend Dee Ragland, Taylor Williams and Noah Whitt, Lilly Bennett and fiancé Lawrence Bishop, Jenna Ronan and ex-boyfriend Aden Albright.
Are Emersyn Potter And Mason Ramirez Still Together?
Emersyn Potter found out she was pregnant when she was on a camp trip with her boyfriend Mason Ramirez. In this show, we first see him underprepared for fatherhood. Would he become eventually? We will have to wait for Unexpected to tell us.
In the trailer for Unexpected, we see Emersyn asking her mom to bend one of her rules after she gave birth to her child. The rule concerns Mason and she wants her mom to allow Mason to sleep in her room. “Emy, we went over this. We’re going to have him downstairs”, Erica was heard saying. Erica, in a clip, said she was still doubting if or not her daughter was practicing safe sex.
By the look of it, Emersyn and Mason are still together. The last time we saw them together on social media, was 20 October 2021.
Mason also had him and their son Mateo’s picture set as his ‘display picture’ on Facebook. Mason was 17-year-old in 2021 making him a year younger than Emersyn.

Again in a confessional for Unexpected Emersyn shares that when she got pregnant she and her mom did not have a good relationship. (Of course when she said this Erica looked surprised.) Emersyn then went on to say that she also did not have a good equation with her stepdad Sai, age 38 in 2021. “I was a rebellious child,” she said and the background played footage of her from the time she got her belly pierced. The reason Emersyn said she was upset with Sai, as well as her mom, was because they had locked her home and were against her sneaking out.
Erica then in her defense spoke Emersyn had been found smoking marijuana in the house. Following this, worried Erica and Sai were looking for a military school for her. But then, the COVID hit, and the rest is history.
When Emersyn told her mom that she was pregnant her mom, 42-year-old, was pregnant herself. She was just entering her second-trimester pregnancy.
There is also Dave Eric in the picture and he is Emersyn’s biological dad, now married to Katrina Lutfy. Dave has been in the military since he graduated Marine Corps Recruit Training at Parris Island, South Carolina in 1998.
