Meet Erik Curtis, The Carpenter On Netflix’s Instant Dream Home
Netflix debuted a new eight-45-minute home-building show titled Instant Dream Home. The show premiered on 10 August. The show has four skilled builders who take challenges on the challenge of building dream homes for people who have given back a lot to their community and continue to do so.
The title “Instant Dream Home” refers to the 12-hour time frame in which residences must be constructed by contractors. The host of Instant Dream Home has a staff ready to take on any type of living space standing behind her. The exhibition features numerous creative concepts, including “backyard wonderlands,” storage solutions, and areas suited for new babies.
She show’s synopsis read, “Hosted by Danielle Brooks, Instant Dream Home is part home renovation show and part heist movie! A group of families is in for the surprise of their lives, with their homes about to be totally transformed and radically improved from ho-hum to OMG… in just one day!”.
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Erik works as a freelance carpenter, sculptor, and content provider. Erik has a degree in IP Journeyman, Carpentry/Carpenter from Camosun College. His father was also a carpenter.
The first season of Instant Dream Home was actually shot in the summer and early fall of 2021.
During filming, several of the design team members shared photos from Atlanta on their respective public Instagram feeds. Special projects coordinator Paige Mobley referred to the experience as “the greatest summer of [her] life,” while Danielle shared that she got a “really cool opportunity last summer” to be the host of the show.

On his HV Furniture Makers bio, he stated, “I have found few things that bring me as much satisfaction as making fine furniture. There is completion in bringing an idea to tangible reality, but also real contentment in the doing of the thing—a satisfaction not only in the end result but in the work itself”.
Erik added, “After spending my college years searching for my calling, I spent two years in my Philadelphia apartment reading, researching, and practicing joinery on my coffee table. I then decided it was time to pursue the passion I had found. After moving to New York, I spent the next year taking classes, making pieces, and spending a month learning under Paul Sellers, a renowned hand-tool woodworker, in Greenwich, NY.”
He concluded, “Then I decided I was ready to push myself to a new level of craftsmanship, and I enrolled in the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s 9-month comprehensive program. There I honed my craft under the guidance of Aled Lewis and some of the finest woodworkers and teachers from around the world.”
Erik is also a contributor at Family Handyman. He has taught at several notable schools around the country, including the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and Lohr School of Woodworking, and his work has appeared in galleries throughout the east coast.
