Josh Liechty With Girl Named Tom On The Voice
A sibling band from Ohio named “Girl Named Tom” formed in the spring of 2019 started earning ‘wow’ from judges since they step foot on “The Voice” season 21. They came to the singing competition show performing ‘Helplessly Hoping’ by Crosby, Stills, and Nash. They turned the chair of all four judges on the show. But, they ended up picking Kelly Clarkson as their coach.
In the battle round, the band sang ‘Seven Bridges Road’ by Stevie Wonder when they faced off Kinsey Rose, a fellow contestant, and won. Then in Life Playoffs, they sang ‘Creep’ by Radiohead followed by Dust in the wind by Kansas in Live Top 13.
‘Girl Name Tom’ made it to the Top 11 surviving the elimination. They performed More Hearts Than Mine by Ingrid Andress. In the Top 10, they sang Viva la Vida by Coldplay. In the semi-finals, they performed the song ‘River’ by Joni Mitchell.
So, how the band exactly came about, one may wonder. Worry not because we’ve got that covered here. Music has been more than a passion for the three siblings; Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah. They loved music and performed separately but it was their mom’s suggestion to form a band together. She advised her children to take a year off and do something to pursue their music careers. And their father’s health also played a great role in their pursuing music. He might’ve never considered all three pursuing music as a career. As for the name of the band, it came from family memory.
When young, Joshua used to give nicknames to everyone including their dog. When Bekah was born, Josh started calling him Thomas, and that was the origin of the name of the band, ‘Girl Named Tom.’ The band focuses on acoustic pop with an emphasis on smooth harmonies.
Josh is the percussionist, Caleb plays guitar, and Bekah is proficient with the keyboard. They have released a five-song EP in 2019 and went on a year-long tour in 2020. You can read more about their tour here.
The Liechtys have traded in their childhood days of the church choir, piano lessons, and percussion by way of pots and pans for a professional music venture, with a polished repertoire of original pieces and interpretations of modern songs.
