Leah Marlene, when stepped on that American Idol stage for her audition, appeared as someone filled with enthusiasm, and Judge Katy Perry complemented her that she was “not normal”. She had judges with the first song she sang at the audition, Steal My Girl by One Direction.
She then sings an original “Wisher to the Well”. After the song, Katy compared her to Catie Turner. She won the “Yes!” vote from all three judges and proceeded to the Hollywood round.
In the Hollywood Week, she was introduced to the “Indie-Folk” category of the Genre Challenge, in a group with Fritz Hager. She sang “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne. She was later shown in a duet with Fritz called “Team Green”. They sang “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars.
For her final solo performance, she sang “She’s a Self Made Man” by Larkin Poe. The judges pushed her to the Top 24.
In the Top 24, Leah sang “Call Me” by Blondie and earned enough votes, and secured her spot in the Top 20. In that round, she sang “Heal” by Tom Odell and received enough votes to place in the Top 14. Furthermore, Leah sang “Happy Together” by The Turtles, and in the Top 11, she performed “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan chosen by Katy Perry.
