Cruel Summer returned for its second installment on May 31, 2022, and it was filled with new characters and a new town. However, Lisa Yamada was just one of the supporting cast who played Queen Bee Parker, one of the suspects in the story.
“Parker is a bit of a … b*tch, I would say. She’s not very personable or likable at the beginning. She’s the leader of the pack,” Lisa explained her character. “Parker’s giving very much Regina George in Mean Girls in a sense where she is the pack leader, as I mentioned. But she has the best outfits, the best hair, and the best makeup.”
As this season went back to the Y2K timeline and aesthetic, Lisa’s character was a “more grunge Y2K-type — influenced by Gwen Stefani in her “No Doubi” era and Avril Lavigne in her “Sk8er Boi” era.”
Thanks to this, Lisa’s favorite part about filming was the wardrobe and the hair and makeup team. “We had the most amazing wardrobe and hair and makeup department. They were so collaborative,” she said.
Every morning the actor would step into the Hair & Makeup trailer, and they’d say, “Okay, so what do you have in mind for today?” before she showed them her huge Pinterest boards.
Now, coming back to her character, even though Lisa described her to be “not very personable,” she’s just a teenage girl dealing with her insecurities and seeking male validation. She didn’t have the best female friendships, so she didn’t know what it was like to be a girl’s girl and be kind.
Parker is completely different from Lisa in real life. But the actor enjoyed tapping into the mean girl character. “It was fun to tap into that darker side of me,” she said. “Even if other people don’t like her, you have to find reasons why you like her. And why you see the world in the way she does. It was fun for me to play her and prove everyone wrong,”

As for her training, she has studied acting at Margie Haber Studio, Tess Kirsch Acting Studio, Ivana Chubbuck Youth, and Talent House Academy. Also, she’s had private lessons with Lori Lively, Lisa Picotte, and Walter Pridgen.
