Port Protection star Litzi’s death came as a shock to many of her fans and the fans of the show. They enjoyed watching her but more importantly, the viewers could see that even though she seemed alright on the TV show, she would tear up if she started talking about her boys.
We know that Litzi had two sons from her marriage relationship. Sadly, both of them died a while back before she did.
When people were paying tribute, one fan wrote, “She kept it to herself. Lost 2 boys out there, and hurt so bad.” Another fan added: “I remember that she’d tear up when she talked about it she missed them so much but now she’s with them God bless her”.
In 2022, her husband John updated her fans that Litzi has also died.
Fans took notice of her missing on the recent shows, without knowing about her death. In a Facebook group, a fan asked about Litzi and said, “I have missed seeing her. Love to watch her fillet fish.” Litzi’s husband John replied that his wife had died of ovarian cancer.
She reportedly passed away on 25 June 2021 at the age of 62.
Her family added that she “enjoyed beachcombing and just walking on the beach; listening to good music, especially live music; talking to strangers; traveling with her husband in their van; supporting women in any way possible; spreading love.”
Before her death, Litzi also lost her good friend Gary Muehlberger who she knew for 40 years. John opened up in the comment that Gary died three months before Litzi. On that unfortunate day of losing her friend, Litzi visited her doctor for surgery for her ovarian cancer.

Cecilia “Litzi” Jovita Botello was living on Prince of Wales Island for 40 years. She married on 21 May 2000 in Port Protection and had two sons Leland Bean and Johnny Botello. They were one of the less than 50 people living their life in Port Protection, Alaska. They met each other when Litzi was in her early ’20s while living in Los Angeles.
Litzi and her husband got married and headed to Alaska to spend the rest of their life. John and Litzi were happily married ever since.
Litzi commented on a Mother’s Day blog post about grieving mothers in 2019. “Both my sons were always trying to get me out hiking more,” the comment says. “Both were avid hikers and hunters.”

Jhonny Duarte Bean died on 17 July 2015. On June 20, 2015, Johnny was involved in a head-on collision with a logging truck on the way to work on the Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. As reported, Johnny wasn’t wearing a seat belt and both cars were totaled in the collision.
He also had a brain injury, compound fracture to the left femur, jaw fracture, and various other scrapes and abrasions. He aspirated while being intubated which has caused breathing complications and was kept on a ventilator.
Johnny was in a medically induced coma until the swelling in his brain can decrease enough for Doctors to perform a Cerebral Angiogram to determine the extent of the brain injury. The medical team was working to stabilize his O2 levels and his breathing to lay him flat for the test. A slight improvement in his O2 SATs was seen.
Sadly, he didn’t make it despite the utmost effort.
