Meet Stu Smith Parents: Doug Smith and Suzanne Holland.

Stu is best known as the nephew of Ree Drummond who lives in Texas however, he often comes to visit Ree and her family. Ree often boasts about her nephew on her socials. Like, in October 2020, posting about Stu on her Instagram, she wrote, “In case you didn’t know, my nephew Stu is the cutest kid ever and I love him so much.”

“Also, please ignore the first part of this video where I awkwardly eat hot soup on camera.” she wrote the caption. “I would have trimmed it off of this video…but the thought of that made me tired and I guess I’m not afraid of being awkward anymore. See the taco soup Stu is raving about on my @foodnetwork show tomorrow at 10 am/9c!”

Back in an August 2017 IG post, Ree explained that she has a nickname for her Stu which is ‘Tooie’. She sometimes went further and named him Tooie Booie. However, since he was over the age of 18 Ree told him that she would drop the nickname ‘Tooie Booie’ which only lasted for nine minutes.

Stu lends hand to his social media celebrity aunty Ree. He assisted her as a production assistant for ‘Pioneer Woman’ which aired on Food Network.

Stu Smith, better known as the son of Ree Drummond’s brother Doug Smith and Suzanne Holland, is a frequent feature in the blogger and food writer’s socials.

Doug worked as a portfolio manager/trader at Beal Bank from 2008 to 2010. From 2006 to 2008, he worked for Highland Capital Management, L.P. as a Senior Portfolio Analyst. He had also worked for Beal Bank as Bond Trader, senior portfolio manager at Microsoft, and Manager for Williams Energy.

Furthermore, he had worked for Kidder Peabody as an Associate, UBS Investment Bank as Associate Director, and Smith Breeden Associates also as an associate

Talking about his education, Douglas graduated from Southern Methodist University with BS in Economics with Finance Application and The University of Chicago Booth School of Business with a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Business Economics.

His parents grew up in the same town of Bartlesville just down the road and Doug and Suzanne’s family knew each other. Although the marriage, ended Stu’s mother Suzanne and his aunt Ree call each other “sister”.

Meet Stu Smith Father, Doug Smith

Stu Smith’s father is Doug Smith. He is one of the three siblings of Ree Drummond. Doug and Ree also have a sister named Betsy Smith and a late brother named Michael Smith. The four siblings were born to their mother Gerre Smith, and an orthopedic surgeon father William Smith.

Doug’s parents ended their marriage after 33 years after she fell in love with a family pastor. Before their marriage, their step-father Rev. Doug worked as a pastor at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. What’s more, they reportedly live in Tennessee now.

Doug’s sister Ree, being in the public eyes, has shared about their mother’s second marriage. She had explained it as a difficult experience in her life. She also labeled her mom “the villain” who dropped a bomb on her family. Gerre filed for divorce in October 2026.

On 31 October 2021, Doug, Ree, and Betsy lost their brother Michael Smith in Bartlesville, Okla. In a statement written by Ree, she revealed, “It isn’t possible, to sum up, the life of someone as perfectly wonderful as my brother Michael, so right now I won’t try.”

“He was seventeen months older than me, my first friend and buddy, and I’m so grateful for over 50 years of photos and memories. Please pray for my parents, whose devotion to Mike was boundless, and who will feel this loss most acutely. Michael Smith, you were everything.”

Meet Stu Smith Mother, Suzanne Holland

Suzanne Holland was born to her mother Donna Axum Whitworth and J. Bryan Whitworth of Fort Worth, Texas. Her parents married in 1982. She lost her mother on 4 November 2018 at the age of 76.

Donna was born on 3 January 1942 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Idelle and Hurley Axum. She graduated from El Dorado High School and then earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Her love of music and her talent as a vocalist led Donna to win the title of Miss Arkansas and then on to be crowned Miss America 1964.

Over the years, she had formed a career as a television personality, professional speaker, author, and university professor. Donna received a Presidential Appointment to serve on the President’s Advisory Committee for the Arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Moreover, Donna was a past Chairman of the Texas Cultural Trust and Board Chairman for the organization’s Texas Women for the Arts. In Fort Worth, Donna was a member of the Van Cliburn Foundation Board of Directors, the Fort Worth Symphony Executive Committee, and the Texas Christian University, College of Fine Arts Advisory Board.

Donna was also the first Miss America elected to the Miss America Board of Directors.

In addition, Suzanne’s father JBryan Whitworth worked as an attorney and former oil company executive. He was born in born in Louisiana and attended the University of Alabama undergraduate school (1954-1958) and its law school (1959-1961). 

After graduation, Bryan began work with Phillips Petroleum of Bartlesville, Oklahoma (now ConocoPhillips) rising to become Executive Vice President & General Counsel – Government Relations & Human Resources in charge of its legal and administrative headquarters executives. 

Furthermore, Bryan kept the position after the merger of Phillips and Conoco but retired in 2005. He is currently counsel for Wachtell, Lipton, Rozen, and Katz, a New York City law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Whitworth’s father, J. B. “Ears” Whitworth, was the head football coach at the University of Alabama from 1954 to 1958.

Suzanne has two sisters; Elizabeth and her husband Todd Forgan, of Dallas, TX; and Cathy and her husband, Alex Jordan, of Little Rock, AR. Suzanne and Cathy started a business together named The Oilman’s Daughter (just like Air B&B) in Pawhuska. Cathy is the creative side of the business.
