Meet Dan Buckley, husband of NBC4 anchor Wendy Rieger who died after a battle with brain cancer. The news station revealed that she was 65 years old at the time of her death. In July 2021, she had announced undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor and was undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma.
A few months later, Wendy also had open-heart surgery to mend her heart conditions.
As reported, Wendy took her last breath holding hands with her husband Dan. Below you’ll learn about Dan Buckley. We cover his age, job, and details regarding their relationship.
Meet Dan Buckley, Wendy Rieger Husband
NBC4’s Wendy Rieger was married to her husband Dan Buckley. They worked together at the station for 10 years. At the time, they were married to their respective partners. After Dan switched from news to sports, alongside the late sportscaster George Michael, they occasionally bumped into each other and chatted in the hallways.
“I always thought if he ever becomes free, I’m going to pounce on him like a sumo wrestler,” Rieger said. “I was not raised to be reserved.” They began a relationship after Dan filed for divorce in 2020. They tied the knots in November 2021 so they were married less than a year at the time of her death.
After Wendy’s death, Dan posted a picture of a quote from Rabindranath Tagore that read, “Death is not extinguishing the light, it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.”
On New Years’ Day 2022, Wendy posted on her IG captioning her resolutions to spend 33 years more with her husband in 2022. She wrote, “2022 new year’s resolution: live the next 33 years with this guy @medanbuckley #usbaby, us #hunkyhubby“.
Wendy was married at least once before she met Dan. She had tied the knots with CNN producer Sol Levine. The marriage lasted for only a few years. But, they ended their marriage in a good term. After her death, Sol mourned the loss of his ex-wife and posted two pictures of his Wendy on his Facebook.
In 2017, Wendy had introduced to her boyfriend Patrick. She posted, “Meet my boyfriend Patrick. Together a year. Am I the only independent woman who struggles to let someone in?”
Wendy also quipped about relationships while reporting and it didn’t make her less of a journalist. “Note to self: waterproof mascara!” she quipped while getting comically drenched by a storm she was covering. When the hurricane failed to develop into the telegenic maelstrom that TV news demands, Rieger cast a glance at the too-calm surf behind her and deemed it “nothing much.” She added, “Kind of like my dating life.”
