A new dating show Swiping America featured New York-based hairstylist Reagan Baker. “Swiping America,” follows a varied group of New Yorkers as they try dating in other American cities. In his introduction before the screening, Johnnie referred to the program as a “rom-doc,” noting that it is not a game show and “is not about manufactured drama.”
“We love romantic comedies, and that combined with our work in the unscripted space, we set out to create a true-to-life romantic documentary…aka ROM DOC,” creators and executive producers exclusively told Cosmopolitan. “What makes this dating show unique is instead of going from zero to marriage, we focused on the initial stages of love and human connection mixed with real singles that are frustrated with swiping in their city, but still optimistic that their person is out there,” they continued. “Sometimes you have to outsource love to a different city!”
Swiping America is all about connecting two strangers and watching as their love (hopefully) blossoms, using dating apps to do the magic. Singles won’t be using their applications in their own, comfortable metropolitan areas; instead, they’ll be traveling across the nation. The singles are escorted to a new place for some swipes in every episode. Following their matches, the local singles get together with the individuals from the show to mingle.
They will be able to take those that they click with on a more formal date if this goes well. Instead of trying to “win,” the objective is to actually engage with the other person. They are searching for genuine connections rather than concentrating on some form of rivalry. The singles choose who, if anyone, they want to stay in touch with as they proceed from that place.

Reagan Baker On HBO Max’s Swiping America
Speaking with New York Post, Reagan Baker shared that the dating scene in New York City felt a lot. She added, “It was nice to remove myself from that, in order to reset.” She also shared that the dating scene in each city had a lot of variety but now she is appreciating the NY dating scene more.
Reagan Baker the star of HBO Max’s Swiping America was first approached to do the show at the tail end of “New York’s never-ending lockdown, so nothing sounded more interesting to me than traveling around America and possibly finding myself a cornfed.”
The HBO star is excited for viewers to see that there has never been a cast like this ever. Each of them represents different conversations happening in the modern dating world that so many people can relate to. She told Cosmopolitan, “All four of us opened up to the experience and shared so much.”
The other three New Yorkers who accompanied her on this journey are real estate agent Kesun Lee, homosexual data scientist Krishnanand Kelkar, and entrepreneur Ashleigh Warren.

Reagan was lost with her career path to choose and hairdressing seemed to keep presenting itself as the only thing that didn’t sound painfully boring.
She told ILES Formula, “So initially I guess I did sort of “fall into” it. I just didn’t know how much I would love it, what all of the possibilities were, and how satisfying all of the hard work would be. The amount of education involved is something almost no one knows about outside of the industry, so really nothing in building my career has felt easy since I graduated from beauty school. Apprenticing was really tough and building a clientele took years, so not necessarily easy to fall into, but I’m glad I stuck it out because it’s been so rewarding.”
Reagan added that the client “who sits down and starts the consultation by saying ‘I’ve never like any haircut I’ve ever gotten in my entire life’.” Such negative interactions according to her are impossible to break. According to the hair stylist that “They’re the client that questions every step, every section, every technique, every product, every tool.”
